3.1? what am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone, newbie here.

I just purchased a PA CSR center and a PA PSW111 sub to go with my R50 fronts. I have a Harmon Kardon AVR100. While in video 1 mode for watching TV the center iis overly dominant, very little if any sound from the fronts at all.

I try using 3 stereo & pro logic with the same results. I end up using surround off and only using the fronts and the sub.

I've read the HK manual over and over and can't figure out what the heck I'm doing wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Dean

that sounds normal to me.. mine is more center dominant too.. very little from my fronts either in pro logic.

how about when you change sources? Like watching a movie on DVD? is your DVD player hooked up using a optical or coax digital cable?

I guess the next thing to try out is to be sure your speaker volume levels are calibrated. most receivers have an automatic speaker calibration. if yours does, try that..

but in all honesty. like I said before. my system in pro logic responds just like yours. most of the audio coming from the center and very little from the front mains. so you may not have a problem at all.. it's just how pro logic processes the audio signal.

did you try a DVD movie? is that in pro logic too?

thats not how prologic decodes the signal, I had an old pioneer AVR that did the same thing, no matter what I calibrated my speakers to and no matter the X-over frequency that I had everything set.....the center was way louder than everything else. When I bought my new Denon AVR I was able to set the x-over for each seperate speaker and adjust channel volume....problem solved. It could be your AVR, make sure you have your CC crossed over at well above 150hz, that solved most of the problem for me.

:confused:Ok...Sorry to have upset you so much. I don't think one of the mods started another thread in your name...but I'm not to concerned about it either way. Why don't you chill out?;) No one's arguing with you bro.

Good luck figuring out your issue though. Have you tried adjusting the levels between the channels? It sounds like the center channel is turned way up, and the front channels way down. Balancing them out may be just the ticket.

Also...this may sound like a stupid question, but the front channels are wired with the proper polarity right? i.e. Positive to positive, negative to negative.

    Thanks alot for the feedback!

When it's in DVD mode and CD mode everything sounds fantastic. I have had to adjust the levels and such. It's just in video mode with my TV that I have the aforementioned issue.

Thanks again to all for your time,
    Ciao

Good to hear you got your issue figured out.

Like I said in an earlier post, that's more or less how a center channel is supposed to work. I take it this is the first time you've had a center channel? They do carry the majority of the soundtrack of a movie.

    FYI:

In my HTS, with almost every movie disc I play I have to increase the volume on the center speaker and decrese the volume on my subs. Then, when I watch TV, I have to reset the volume levels.
