My question? Why are they 'amazing' Carvers when there are, god knows, how many speaker manufacturers out there making $80k+ speakers!

Ok, I am kidding here...but only a little....

Because they performed in an "Amazing" manner when introduced. They addressed and achieved success in areas that had previously eluded other speaker manufacturers (REALLY deep and accurate bass from a speaker with no enclosure for one), at a retail cost of $2,300 in oak/$2,700 in black lacquer, and because they were either in the same league, or above performance-wise than those $80k offerings. They were the audio steal of all-time in my opinion. Them and the $19.95 Dynaco Quadaptor.

I think the design is referred to as "open baffle" old man.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I didn't want to have the kids reaching for their audio encyclopedias. You just put another chest slam in the bank.

    JCK,
Contact DaveS on the Carver forum. He has a set of Plats that are black in SE Fla. if he hasn't sold them yet. They aren't the MKIV's, or oak as you desire, but they are close.
