Why not Rti-A/LSI-9 minitowers?
One of the best selling Polk speakers is probably the M-50 (TSI-300). Why doesn't Polk consider a similar tower (2 X 5" and one tweeter in a D'appolito array). For the RTI and LSI series?
The top part of a RTI-A9 could provide drivers, and the LSI-9s already have what's necessary. A lot of people would love the space saving, while retaining good sound that would just need a sub?
I know the LSI-15s/25s are such towers but they have a sub and could be smaller without it.
I realize this is pretty much a 'what if' and perhaps 'who cares' post! But that's part of it. I'm wondering if 'anyone' cares?

Like this? RtA 8TL
I am also a big fan of this design but I have found that you have to elevate the speaker so that the tweeter is at ear level because the upper mid woofer driver dispersion can block the tweeter dispersion and kind of smear the high end. The little plastic flap just below the upper mid woofer driver is supposed to help with that. I have found that if you elevate and tilt this design back slightly it helps the HF dispersion.
This makes for a tall top heavy speaker cabinet.
I like both the RTA 8TL and the RTA 11T.
ScottI like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
Aren't the RTi8/RTiA5 the "Monitor 50's" of the RTi/RTiA series? I agree about a tower based on the LSi9, it would be particularly nice for HT applications. I would call it the "LSi12".
The Rti8/RTiA5 tweeter is above the two drivers. The Monitor 50/TSi300 configuration places the tweeter between the two drivers. -
I care a great deal & basically posed that question to Matt Polk at PF2008. I would love a LSI-12 to be designed that would basically be the LSI 9's in a smaller tower without the sidewoofer. One of the best selling Polk speakers is probably the M-50 (TSI-300). What's wrong with bookshelves on speaker stands?
As is, the LSi15/25 has a small footprint for a tower. How much space are you really going to save? It's complaints like this why the LSi15/25 are as small as they are and will never be a true full range tower like the SDA's were."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
BINGO! A disaster waiting to happen & towers simply look better. I have never been interested in bookshelf speakers or the stands you have to buy for them.Speakers with stands are more unstable than towers. Disaster lurks anytime a child, clumsy adult, or vacuum cleaner comes close. Small foot print towers typically look better than bookshelves on towers, and there is the WAF. The "LSi12's" would be less expensive compared with the LSi15's. So I see it for the LSi's. Since the RTiA series has the RTiA5, then I don't see it in that case unless the thought is to redesign it shortly after it was redesigned from the RTi8. To me that seems very unlikely.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2
