Anybody know if this is worth the $68 they want for a lifetime membership? I was offered it because I am graduating this spring with good grades I guess.

Just wanted a few opinions. I think it is silly, but what do I know? Look good as a one liner on the resume I suppose....

More-so than you think. There IS no North America Scholar Consortium.

The only reason I was directed here is because I googled it, and I am trying to alert people of the SCAM

Take a close look at the website. A few things are a bit out of place here.

    1) No contact phone number
    2) Nothing backing up any of their facts

But the hard evidence is the things you don't see off the bat:
    Registrant Name:Registration Private
Registrant Organization: Domains by Proxy, Inc.
    Registrant Street1: DomainsByProxy.com
    Registrant Street2:15111 N. Hayden Rd., Ste 160, PMB 353
    Registrant Street3:
    Registrant City:Scottsdale
    Registrant State/Province:Arizona
    Registrant Postal Code:85260
    Registrant Country:US
    Registrant Phone:+1.4806242599
    Registrant Phone Ext.:
    Registrant FAX:+1.4806242598
    Registrant FAX Ext.:
    Registrant Email:NASCHONOR.ORG@domainsbyproxy.com

Hmm...their website is by a proxy and provides no legitamite contact information....
    Created On:30-Oct-2008 17:55:00 UTC

Hmm, for one of the "Oldest and Most reputable orginizations in the country" I am surprised they didn't have a website until last October

    From their Privacy Policy...
WITHOUT LIMITING THE GENERALITY OF THE FOREGOING, NEITHER NORTH AMERICA STUDENT CONSORTIUM, ITS AFFILIATES NOR ITS LICENSEES SHALL HAVE ANY LIABILITY FOR ANY ERRORS, INACCURACIES, OMISSIONS OR OTHER DEFECTS IN THE INFORMATION CONTAINED WITHIN THIS WEB SITE, OR ANY LIABILITY FOR DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING FROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THIS WEB SITE....IN NO EVENT SHALL NORTH AMERICA STUDENT CONSORTIUM, ITS AFFILIATES OR ITS LICENSEES OR PROVIDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, THOSE ARISING OUT OF ACCESS TO, OR THE USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE THIS WEB SITE OR ANY PRODUCTS OR SERVICES, INCLUDING OR RESULTING FROM LOST PROFITS OR DATA, WHETHER IN AN ACTION FOR CONTRACT OR TORT, EVEN IF NORTH AMERICA STUDENT CONSORTIUM HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Thats pecuiliar, I wonder why that is the only capatalised part of their usage policy?

hmm...a reverse DNS lookup of their IP shows that they share their IP with
    Domain Name: ALWAYSADULTSCHATTING.COM
    and
    NetName: COLOSTORE-COM

    Save your money

Aparentlly their ssh port is open and upon connecting with telnet gives SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-3ubuntu1 leading me to believe its not reputable. Normally a company would use something more stable than the ubuntu (not that there is anything wrong with ubuntu) for a business application. I mean also their webserver wouldn't have port 22 open because it would be hosted but whatever. I also did a trace route and the closest 2 or 3 routers to them are in austin tx. Interesting their site claims they are from Canada. Also i found it amusing that there is a guest login on this website, guess the password :)

Another big indication of it being a scam is that NASC wouldn't have access to your grades.

I never heard of this organization. I would suggest that you join whatever National Organization exists for your field. Examples: American Sociological Association, American Anthropological Association, Am. Psychological ****., etc. Google your field if you don't know what the appropriate org. is. Almost all national units have a section for students if you don't have an M.A. or Ph.D. in the field. It's a good way to keep up with your field, and you can attend national meetings and receive their Newsletters!

It's interesting that the picture they use on their "Contact Us" page is of King's College Chapel, Cambridge, England. I recognise the cloisters in their "About NASC" page too, also from Cambridge, England.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say kudos to those who responded to the original post. This is the kind of thing that makes me wonder how we ever survived without the Internet.
A couple of other obvious things jumped out at me as I browsed the website, for instance, where is a picture of the president of this organization? Or a list of the directors? How about some testimonials? Looking at the online store, all of the merchandise is hideous. I'd feel sorry if someone's grandparents bought some of this garbage for them.
Maybe I just need to come up with my own outlandish club. Let's see, if I contact 1 million people and get 1% to join, or buy gift memberships, then I just made $680,0000. If I sell some ugly hats and mugs then that's just gravy. I should make enough to hire a pretty good lawyer when the victims, er, customers start asking questions.

I can confirm this. I debunked it about a week ago, more technical details and such are available along with user feedback at http://hexhost.net/26/

I cant stand people who run this kinda scam. Its ridiculous.
