HDMI passthrough when receiver is off?

Does your receiver/processor need to be on to pass through HDMI signal? I'm thinking of situations where I want to watch TV without having to turn on the receiver. I'm looking into a new processor and it's either a UMC-1 or XMC-1 from Emotiva at this point (whenever they come out) but it I might still have to use my HDMI switch boxes if they won't pass signal w/o being on. I have multiple displays, HT and bedroom, that share sources. I like the 6 HDMI in, 2 out from XMC-1 but if I still need to use the switches I might as well go with the UMC-1.

I haven't seen a receiver which would pass HDMI signal through it when off.
