SDA 2 question

i recently got a harman kardon avr 7200 reciever and a set of polk audio SDA 2 speakers and i have read a lot of reviews and expected something different from them. I think that its the way i have them hooked up or the reciever set, but they start sounding nasty at about -20. The speakers are in good shape and the reciever is new. A friend said that they might not be the right ohms for the reciever. i believe there 6 ohm and the reciever says its 8. Any thoughts would be apreciated thx.
