Laptop standy issues

Hello
I'm working on an HP Pavillion dv6000 and everything is working great except the Standby mode. I'm trying to get it to come out of standby when you open the lid. It goes into standby just fine when you close it but when you open the lid it acts like its going to work but then it restarts and goes into booting up....
I tried it without closing the lid but does the same thing, looked at maybe updating the drivers but looks like any driver fixes they have listed doesn't have anything to do with fixing standby issues. The video drivers are current, I've double check all the power settings, bios is current, nothing in the bios I can see to change.
I tried disabling auto restart on system failure and that does cause it to not restart but it just sits there in Limbo, nothing on the screen, no activity and I have to hit the power button.
Its a clean system, nothing major running in the background, just the wireless stuff, and ESET.
Hibernation acts kinda funky to, it just goes into the HP directplay program after coming out and I have to power down and back up again to get into the OS.
Device manager all looks good, boot priority is hard drive first, thats about all I can think of for now...
Thanks for any help

Are you putting it in standby and then closing it? If not, you may try to set it to standby first and then close the lid. Also check to make sure in the power settings that it is set to "When I close the lid... put in standby" I know my father-in-law would put his in standby, but then close the lid(which was set to turn off the computer) and a similar thing would happen to him.
Good luck.I know just enough to be dangerous, but don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a genius.
Pioneer VSX-816

Sony Progressive scan DVD

Do you have it set to auto-logon without a password? If so, try setting a user password. Also make sure you have chipset drivers that are current, and possibly bios update- at your own risk with HP.

No matter how it gets put into standby or the sequence the result is always the same when it comes out of it....
I have all the settings correct....Testing

I'll try the password idea.

Password didn't work either, restarts as soon as you open the lid.....Testing
