U2-No Line on the Horizon

I guess the fact that there isn't anything on the forum about the new album speaks to just how much Bono irritates people with his self importance.
All that aside, the new album is quite good - and don't let "Get On Your Boots" form your impression of this CD. That song is actually kind of out of place and it one of the weaker songs on the album. The Edge is in full force and Adam & Larry really shine on this one. Hate to tell any U2 haters out there, but this one is rock solid. "Magnificent" is pretty amazing and so is "Moment of Surrender". The title track will take you for a ride and "Breathe" is really cool as well.
I'd give it 4 stars so far, but by the middle of next week I'm sure it will be at least 4.5.

I'd love it if they'd go back to their early days. IMO, The Joshua Tree was their last great album, after it, everything they've done is forgettable.
Like the others, I'll give this a listen at some point but I doubt it'll be any better then their recent offerings. U2 is a band that went from great to total suck.If...

Interesting logic...
Don't really know what that means....interesting logic? Clearly, this is one of the top 20 bands of all time (IMO top 10) and there was no mention of it on the forum. Was just wondering if anyone had heard the new CD and what their thoughts were.Like the others, I'll give this a listen at some point but I doubt it'll be any better then their recent offerings. I have no idea what you particular flavor is but to say All That You Can't Leave Behind and How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb were included in your "total suck" category is surprising to me. Maybe you just aren't an 80's guy...INXS...suck...U2...suck...I must be listening to different music than you are. Have you seen what passes for music these days? Granted I'm a homer, but U2 has put out some of (if not the best) the best music cumulatively in the last 20 years. Achtung Baby is regarded as one of the best albums of all time as is the Joshua Tree. I'll agree to disagree here, along with you opinion on INXS....
It must be getting close to St. Patty's day...U2 homer rant over. -
irishaz... I don't mean to twist your nose, but the fact that U2 isn't mentioned much around here doesn't necessarily mean that everyone here is irritated with Bono or finds him to be "self important.""Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." Bob Seger

U2 is just more commercial now then they were when they started out so they get hate for it. I like that they experiment. there early stuff was awesome but they are still a great band.Sharp Elite 70

I think there is an attempt at experimentation on this disc. Although I have only listened to it once so far, I had the feeling that I would enjoy it more on subsequent listening sessions, unlike the material on their last 2 albums which was a lot more accessible and immediate. I've never been a U2 fan boy, but like most, I do admire quality when I hear it. The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are two of the best rock records ever IMO, the rest of their catalogue must always be measured against these benchmarks, quite a tall order.Mains - Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand

I used to like U2 and thought they were a great band. Then their pathetic political nonsense made me start throwing up a little in my mouth everytime I heard them. Musicians should be heard playing music, that's all I expect of them is good tunes. Maybe a little protest song every now and then, in a Bob Marley type of way. They highly over-estimate their importance to society in my view.
I used to like the Indigo Girls too, but now have the same feelings about them.DKG999

I am picking this new U2 release on vinyl today after work at BB. I think it runs like $20 for a double album. I haven't been a U2 fan since the 80's really.. but I need some new musak.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I got the U2 CD for my birthday. I think I will give a listen tonight after the kids are in bed.

I think they are quite brilliant and admire their music. That being said, I just can't listen to it more than occasionally. It's too techno for me.My Main Gear

Techno really? I dont know if I would call it that. I do know one word for it...horrible. I love it when bands try to change it up, but at this point do they really need to change anything to prove themselves?
But we all know who will win the grammy's next year. It's just that predictable. -
Come to think of it I can't really say why I admire their music. It seems like I am supposed to like it. Maybe I have been brainwashed and it didn't take. I actually own one of their discs- Joshua something. My Main Gear

ok I picked up the new U2 - No line On The Horizon on vinyl. nice that it's two discs and 180g vinyl.
only problem is.. it sucks beetle dung! The quality is horrible. Bass is overbloated, mids and highs are crushed. just awful. After changing cartridges and playing the darn thing three times.. I am surprised how horrible it sounds. Why on earth did they release it on vinyl and it sounds so gawd awful in the first place?
If any of you are thinking of getting this on vinyl.. think twice about it and just get the $9.99 CD instead of the $19.99 vinyl album.:mad::mad::mad:PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Haven't stopped listening to this album since I got it last week. As I posted earlier, I'm not a big U2 fan but love their more involved works. While it doesn't sound much like Achtung Baby, it reminds me of it a lot because of the complexity of some of the arrangements and the overall dark tone of the album. Favorite tracks at this point : No Line on the Horizon, Magnificent, Unknown Caller, Breath, Cedars in Lebanon. I agree that the mix is quite bass heavy which is a bit of a shame. Overall though, If you like a little substance with your style give this album a listen. If you already have, give it a second or third, I think it's worth it.Mains - Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand

I picked this up today. So far I am really liking it. Much better than their recent efforts even though I loved a couple of song from the last album. This sounds more like their earlier stuff.Sharp Elite 70

Thats good to hear. To be honest, I really haven't like much since Rattle & Hum...at least no where near the level of their old stuff. I guess I'm still stuck in the 1980s when it comes to U2, but hey maybe I should give the new one a shot. There's always hope. I just don't think it will compare to what they were doing back in the day. Tonight I've been streaming a concert recorded on May 15, 1981, in between the releases of Boy and October. Man, I love this era of their work. Here's a link to the show:

These guys have been playing live shows aired on the radio for the past 3 nights.
Didn't sound that great, but i didn't expect it would over the radio.
It was still cool though. -
I must be stuck in the 80's also, I like their older stuff too. I saw them at Red Rocks in Colorado years ago.
