MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - An arsonist is apparently on the prowl for green Ford Escorts from the 1990s. Three of them have been burned in recent weeks, a series that Medford police Sgt. Mike Budreau described as "pretty bizarre." A 1995 green Ford Escort was destroyed by flames early Sunday morning after someone broke a window and poured flammable liquid into it. A similar fire was set in a 1993 green Ford Escort parked in a driveway on Feb. 22.

Investigators have also uncovered a Feb. 2 case of a 1992 green Ford Escort damaged by a plastic container filled with flammable liquid placed next to a tire that burned without setting the car afire.

Budreau told the Mail Tribune newspaper in Medford, "I think this person really doesn't like Ford Escorts."

Holy crap!!! The first car I ever bought was a brand new GREEN '99 Escort. Straight out of college with about 29.9 APR to eat. Hey... but the first three months were on the house. FINALLY paid that bad boy off and it was stolen two months later.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

And that was the best I could do for my 5000th post. A sob story about my old Escort. I think I'll go stand in the Polk corner now.

That is exactly the car I bought for my daughter for her first car...same color, used 97, 4 door, straight shift, NO frills...the only "options" were air conditioning and an AM/FM radio. Her best friend rear ended her and totaled the thing. It was actually a pretty good little car that drove nice and got great gas mileage.

Are they sure the flammable liquid didn't just leak out?
Damn Escorts. I had an 1982 model. Most worthless car
ever made other than the Yugo.

Nothin' but AM/FM for me, Shack. I swear I ran that car into the ground. Fly by the seat of my pants to the West Coast. No less than two T-Bones. Conveniently "forgetting" to change my oil, tires, etc... I think I actually had to apologize to Ricardo for parking it in his driveway. Will his property value ever recover? Only the Shadow knows.

Never a hiccup. Six years, 120,000 miles later from Ground Zero and the only thing that could take it down was straight up GTA.

The cops actually recovered it two months down the road (no pun intended). At that point, it was too destroyed to sell for anything less than scrap.

I dated a girl who had one of those with no power steering. She had nice arms. :D

The early models were pretty bad. By the time they started making the "mini-Tarus" or jellybean version they were actually pretty good. I drove it for a about a year before I let her start driving it and liked it. I bought well before she got her license so she could learn to drive a straight shift - NO WAY was she going to learn that in my Mustang 5.0 LX.

I ended up donating it to charity with about 83k on it.
It spent more time at the dealership than on the road in
the first year. It would NOT run right in cold weather.
And run a little rough all the time in warm weather.
It stumped me, the dealership, and every mechanic that ever
got near it. Technically, it was the sister car, the Mercury Lynx
with the 1.6L HO engine. And like a "HO" stopped on a lot of
street corners, and took all my money.
