    BEWARE!

I bought 6 very low price LP's for $27 delivered [John Entwistle (The Who), Mike Rutherford (Genesis), Elton John, Mick Jones (Foreigner), Jackson Browne].

1 was canceled so they shipped 5 and it dropped to $25 raising my average cost, as shipping remained about the same. They don't do back-orders.

1 has an off-center spindle hole making it almost unplayable, but somehow my Thorens was able to track it as it wobbled about 4 mm back and forth.

3 have some of the most warpage (+/- 3 to 4 mm at the edge) I've ever seen on new vinyl. It's like mogul skiing! (again, my Thorens can actually track it!)

1 is quite nice, my $28 "on sale" LP.

Wow! That sucks Greg, especially for new vinyl. Can you return the bad ones for a refund or exchange?

I'm going to call them today. I decided to keep my buys to the titles that were $3.99 or less. Maybe they were marked that low due to being old or "seconds". I noticed each of the sealed jackets had a "cut" about 1/8" wide X 1/2" long near a corner (so it didn't nick the album).

As a side note, I just received my Herbie's "Way Excellent II" Mat yesterday at the same time the new vinyl arrived. Dropping brand new vinyl on to that mat was an experience I don't have the proper words to describe. The overall presentation is dramatically improved; pinpoint voice and instrument accuracy, clear mids, and the bass range extended to where you can feel it in your bones! My new clamp should be here soon also, rounding out the turntable tweaks for a while.

This particular brand mat is a composite of materials to bond well to the platter, but not be too sticky on the LP side like the old Audioquest sorothane gel mat I've used in the past. The Herbie's seems to be the perfect blended solution.

I remember Cut-Outs from the 70's: I always looked first into the cut-out bins when visiting my local music stores.

Thanks, I learn something new every day. As much vinyl as I've bought over the past 40 plus years since I was 10, I'm almost embarrassed that I didn't know what "cut outs" were until this morning.

Cool Greg! I had heard really good things about the Herbies "Way Excellent" mats on ve.com. I may look into picking one up now also after our Vegas trip next month. I've been spending on tweaks a lot lately when I shouldn't be. Gunna need $$$ for the trip. I don't know if this is a hobby or a disease sometimes. One thing's for certain. There is no cure. :D;)

Hopefully you will win a few bucks for some more tweaks :)

Years ago when we were first married and before the 4 kids came along, my wife and I used to drive out to the left coast a lot. We always stopped in or near Vegas along the way. I vaguely remember some Restaurant / Casino near Hoover Dam where you could get a meal (I think it was prime rib) for about $2, plus they handed you a free $2 roll of nickels!

The catch was you had to take a number, and it took about 45 minutes before they called you to eat. Naturally, they wanted to empty as much as they could out of your wallet (their $2 "pump primer" plus as much of yours as they could get) while you gambled away during the wait.

My nickels were gone in a few milliseconds, and I was already digging deep into my pockets, but my wife used to just watch the machines.

She would wait until a few people had primed a machine with rolls and rolls of nickels and leave in defeat. She would then casually stroll up to one of those hungry one armed bandits, drop a few of her free coins, and walk away with a small jackpot on the house. I've seen here do this several times and can't believe her luck. She would always pocket the dough and then not touch another machine.

In the meantime I was looking for an ATM  I am so glad she never has been interested in looking at the bank statements! I guess it's classic yin and yang and we probably broke even.

I wish I had the balls and funds to put her on a high dollar machine and see what happens.

I think FYE still cuts their used CD cases that they sell. I seem to remember the Tori Amos I have are cut. Keeps you from returning as new for a full refund.
    Ludicrous gibs!

I just got my Way Excellent mat yesterday too. I already have a clamp on my Pro-ject 6.9 table so the difference wasn't as dramatic but I certainly did notice an overall tightening of the music. What really intrigued me was the widening of the soundstage. The mat really feels and looks high quality and is guaranteed for life as well. It also seems to help with static build up.

He's been extinguished. He had about 17 spam messages on the forum in about 5 minutes..............annoying!

I must say, much to the opposite of what I expected, that JR.com Customer Service is very, very good.

I emailed them, but they took the time to call me back personally.

They gave me a 6 digit RMA number over the phone, and issued a prepaid mailing label via email. I repackage, print the emailed label, mark the 6 digit RMA on the outside and ship it out. Upon receipt they gave me the option of a full refund or having the vinyl shipped again, with the pledge that if there was another problem, they would cover all costs once again.

I really wanted the LP's I ordered so I chose the replacement option. We'll see how it works out.

So far, refreshingly superb Polk-like customer service!
