Stacking Speakers

Is it ok to stack speakers on top of each other? I've seen people stack bookshelf speakers on towers. Does that have a negative effect on the sound quality of the speakers? I'm thinking about stacking a RT55i on top of a RT800i.

    Might be OK for HT, but for music it is a terrible idea. Here is one thread that looked into this...

    I tried it with bookshelf speakers stacked on towers. It's just not a good idea. If you need more oompf up front then upgrade the speakers.

    Wait, were you going to use one pair for HT and the other for 2 channel, or did you want to play both at the same time?

    I was going to use the rt800i for HT and the rt55i for stereo. They were not going to be used at the same time. If it is ok if not used at the same time, will having the rt55i on top of the rt800i affect the sound quality?

    I used RT55i's with a sub as mains, for music and HT, for a long time. I really enjoyed them, so much so, i stopped coming on here and forgot the whole hobby thing and just enjoyed them. The only reason i changed was finding the deal of a lifetime, and the fact i would regret it if i hadn't taken it...

    What makes you want to run 800i's for HT and the 55i's for music?

    Why not try taking the 800i's out for a bit and really work on tweaking settings of the sub and 55i's?
    In terms of audio, i truly feel sorry for the visually impaired. How can they know what they like if they cant read google?

    Why not use the 800i's as your fronts and 2 channel stereo. Most HT receivers let you go into two channel with your fronts. Maybe you could have the 55i's as a two channel stereo setup in another room or run them from the B set speakers to another room. I have stacked them using the B set of speakers just to hear different speakers and different tonal qualities if it's a real space issue. Just some ideas.
    Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
    Yamaha RX-V2500 System, Carver A753 3 channel amp.

    Polk HT system 2: , SRT system with f/x 1,000's rear speakers on 7.1 system currently using Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver, powered by Sunfire Grand Theater amp

    For Music 2 channels Listening, It's not OK to stack speakers in most cases.

    For Multi Channel Music when the top bookshelves will be playing for surround and for HT use, it's OK to stack them. The top speakers are strictly for surround modes (not for stereo modes).

    But it's OK to use the towers for 2 channel stereo and I don't notice any difference in sound quality when playing stereo music with the bookshelves (not playing in stereo mode) on top. I used LSi series speakers so I don't know about any potential negative sound quality for your speakers.
    Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone. :redface::biggrin:

    Well, it has crossed my mind that I am considering purchasing the LSiF/X to replace the LSi15s in the rear surround duties. Except that I would use the LSi15s as speaker stands.

    Heresy...yes, I know. I don't have the money for the LSiF/X anyways.

    I'm not sure which ones I want to use as my HT or 2 CH. I'll have to see if I can find some room and inexpensive speaker stands.
