I've noticed a bunch of reptile feeding videos on youtube and while they're clearly not for the squeamish, some of them are quite excellent:

great technique:

powerful sudden strike:

the owner helps out a little here:

this quail didn't know what hit it:

these guys actually fed theirs a bat:

this goose is cooked:

these guys go to extremes and feed theirs a goat and give the feeding a "gangsta flava" all its own:

here we see a monitor lizard enjoying a snack that's fresh and delicious

Calm mild mannered snakes make great pets, aggressive species or aggressive individuals from a normally docile species are not pet material...you would know this immediately upon handling the individual before purchase.

They deficate as rarely as they eat....there is no urine involved ( The urates are included with the **** as a whiteish/yellowish solid )

They have no bodily odor from the skin ( Some wild or newly caught specimans of just a few species will emit a foul smelling liquid out of the cloaca when handled, but normally stop doing that in a very short period after they dont accociate you with being a threat any longer )

Once you setup a temp/humidity controlled cage ( Very easy nowadays...they really have come a long way ) there really is almost no other maint except of course feedings fresh water and cleaning the cage as with any other pet.

I kept snakes from when I was in early grade school, and almost became a Herpetologist if it hadnt of been for how much money could be made as a fab/final test technician in the then booming Silicon Valley.

I let my wife think that the reason I gave my 3 snakes ( A red tailed boa I had for 20 plus years and 2 reticulated pythons ) away to a friend of mine was because we just bought a new house and didnt want to dedicate a room to them. When in fact the real reason I gave them up was the feedings...I just couldnt do it anymore as I got older. With constrictors, there is not a lot of pain involved....no broken bones...no real physical trauma...just a tightening around the chest cavity and as the animal exhales it cant inhale any longer and it asphyxiates. Compare that to to a lot of other predator killing methods and it is a lot better for the prey animal.

That first rabbit as bruss mentioned ( I wouldnt call it awesome...there is nothing awesome about an animal dying ) is about how 90% to 95% of the feedings go....that rabbit was in instant shock ...it had no idea what hit it, and died extremely fast. It's rare, but sometimes the strike is not perfect and a solid coil doesnt make it around the chest cavity and a struggle ensues...very rare, but even when it does happen...your snake should be sufficiently large enough to throw a couple of more coils around it and end it quickly.

Some of these idiots are feeding animals 1/3 the size of the snake just for video purposes, sure the snakes mouth structure can accommodate the animal ( With unneccessary stress)....but there is no reason to feed such a large animal other then they want to catch drama on video. When I videotaped my snakes eating ( My daughters science class teacher requested it ...not some thrill seeking internet tard who cares nothing about their charge ) it was the proper sized animal I always used in relation to the snakes size.

Like anything else in life....read up and become knowledgeable before jumping into a snake as a pet...if you do that they make very good pets. I have video of mine ( The female retic....at the time of the video maybe 14 or 15 feet long ) cruising over on top of my 1.2TL's I had back in the day...being held by a dozen or so grade school kids when I took them to the school . You mention you have them at work, and pretty soon your whole shift makes it to your house to see them....how many have come over to see your cat...dog...bird...hamster :D

I hadnt seen the " Gangsta" goat one until now after posting this.....I couldnt finish watching it...I would LOVE to be put in a cage with the **** who filmed that....dont take that as a pet snake....that is nothing different then them keeping tigers or hyenas as "pets"

Thanks for the information. I agree, the goat thing was pathetic. Those idiots should be put in jail for that.

I had a family friend who used to have a boa that had its own room in her house. During feeding time, she would just throw live chickens in the room, close the door, and let the boa go to town. I have no problem with killing animals, but never saw the appeal of that pet.

This one's kind of unprofessional the way they move it around after it got the rabbit:

I don't think an audio forum is the place for this type of thread. It should be removed.

Might as well ask Mike Vick to share some of his dog fight videos with us.

They are only animals doing what animals do....right?

Watching the videos of the snake attacking the rabbits. Made me think about my family dogs in the backyard. The goat video was completely stupid. Actually made me clinch my fist and would like to see how tough the owners really are. F!!k That.
