I'm going to be ordering some speakers this week... and what I think i've decided on is:

CS10
Tsi300 (fronts and rears)
Tsi100 (mids)
DSWPro 400

And for now probably a Denon AVR688 until I can afford the TXSR706

Anyone think there's anything I should do differently for now? I'm kind of on a budget and i'm coming from a $399 sony HTIB so I figured this would be good for the time being.

That sounds like a decent setup you're putting together, I have a few recommendations you might want to consider though.

First, I'd go with a CS20 center channel over the CS10. With the TSi300's, the smaller center channel may not be able to keep up as well as the larger one. The center channel carries around 60% of a movies soundtrack, and is the most critical speaker in a HT setup.

I take it that you're planning on using the TSi 100's for surrounds(mids), and 300's for surround backs? Your room placement might not allow it, but I'd switch them around. The surround speakers are more important then the surround backs. The additional speakers in a 7.1 setup aren't "side speakers" but the additional pair that goes in back. The back speakers are much less critical than the "sides".

Are you buying the Denon, and then saving up for the Onkyo, or do you already have the Denon?

By the way, welcome to Club Polk.:)

Well I work at ABC Warehouse, it's kind of like a Best Buy in a way but it's Michigan based and family owned. I can pick up a Denon 688 for about $150... where the 706 would run me about $500. The TXSR606 is actually what I wanted for a while but I decided I might as well go with the 706.

I figured I should go with the CS20 I just wasn't sure, we don't carry it at ABC so there was no way for me to A/B it against the CS10... like I could when I was deciding between Tsi300/400.

As far as the speaker placement goes, I was actually going to get 3 pairs of Tsi300's because i'm getting a very good deal on them, but I have no where to put them. I'm not even sure if I have room for 2 pairs actually, so the extra pair may end up sitting in boxes until I get a larger place.

You sholud be able to get a 705/706 for about the same price as the Denon 688.

    Welcome to Club Polk.

Whichever receiver you get make sure is has preouts for future upgrades in power.

Go for the bigger center channel since it carries the load for movies.

Well the thing is I can get the Denon 688 for about $150 from my work since it's a discontinued model, and even with my discount the 706 will still run me about $500ish
