Any brewmasters out there?

I have been a fan of Fat Tire beer and New Belgium recently released a bunch of new brews. I picked up the Sunshine (wheat beer) and the Abbey (Belgian double). I noticed that the Abbey is %7.0 alcohol and most of the New Belgium beers are fairly generous in the alcohol content. So my question is, is high alcohol content a nessessity in making a great tasting beer? Is it possible to make a great tasting beer that is lower in alcohol?

No and Yes. Higher alcohol beers usually are more complex, but not necessarily better. There is a lot more to a beer then the ABV. It is balancing act between abv, hops and malts. You can get beers from 1% up to 25% in alcohol.

Great tasting beer in general is up to the individual drinker based on styles and taste. Many people like bud light and Budweiser, but I personally can't stand either. However I will drink them if that is my only option. :D
