Going to the hospital in the next few days to have our first baby.

Here is what I have to bring with us for memories and passing the time;

Laptop
PSP
Zune (its like a dignified iPod)
Camera and lenses
DVDs
Headphones
Camcorder

plus all associated cables, batteries and chargers.

Clothes and toiletries.

What else am I forgetting?

I don't remember having any free time whatsoever when my kids were born. Things happened pretty quickly after we arrived both times, and after they are born it's 2 days of no sleep and walking around in a haze before they boot you out of the hospital before you're ready.

Piece of advice: take *everything* baby-related that's in your room: blanket, hats, vaseline, those squeeze droppers for boogers, alcohol, etc. You'll need it.

    By the way, congratulations!

Car seat for the kid and make sure you get the headrest deal to support their head.

FYI - if the car seat rocks at all in the seat if you try to move it, it isn't strapped down enough. That was the general rule of thumb a fireman friend told us.

Congrats!!!! Have fun and enjoy the ride!. Have someone else contact friends and family to let them know you are both at the hospital and to send out specs on the new kid. You are not going to want to have to do either over those couple of days.

Also, make sure you get as much free stuff as you can while you are at the hospital. They gave us tons of diapers, some wipes, etc.
I know just enough to be dangerous, but don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a genius. :D

How about a webcam view of the birth so we can enjoy it with you. Tell your wife later, she's too busy right now.

Sometimes folks won't take diapers home because ..... I dunno. Take theirs.

If the hospital opens a pack of anything, it's yours. If you don't use it in the hospital, take it home.

BTW, that webcam suggestion was really good. Couple that with an audio hookup, and the Gentlemen at Club Polk would be available in real time to offer expert assistance in the delivery room.

You wont look at life the same way after this. Congrats! Dont let the nurses' try to muscle you around during delivery, concerned about you " passing out". Your the man during this, you will hold it together! LOL. Unless you have a stomach, wouldnt advise being around wife post-delivery to view residuals.:p Congrats again.

Thanks for the cigar tip Al. I was thinking about that on the drive home tonight. I'd be fun to do, but we can't smoke in the hospital, and I don't want to smoke then, so not too sure about it.

Thanks for all the other tips and suggestions.

Doro, I'll set up the webcam if you'll set one up for some assless chaps action on our end. Deal?

At the hospital right now. Mom's water broke just after we started to go to bed for the night. I'm tired, and I am certain it will only get much worse. Mom's contractions are painful, and she is going to get an epidural.

    Nonetheless, I am very excited.

Same scenario as my wife. Tried to lighten the mood during this time, by telling the wife she was doing a great "Linda Blair". LOL. Boy, that backfired. You will have an ear to ear grin after delivery, good luck to you, you wont remember how you looked at the world after this.:)
