Would the ONKYO 806 be worth getting over the 606 for only $200 more?

anyways I was in my local curcuit city (which is closing) and they had a store display of the onkyo 806 for $500......

if I am happy with my 606 would it even be worth while going to the 806 since its not alot more money

IF you plan on adding external amplification, I'd say yes.

If you have the extra cash free to do this AND if the nice (cough) folks handling the liquidation at CC will hook it up so you can thoughowly try it out why not. They seem to be very popular although some say they still prefer the 805. Just been some posts lately about some problems with items from CC and all sales are final so if you do have any problems you would need to deal directly with Onk. That's no problem for some, but if I buy from a box store and have problems, I like to take it back and exchange. Other wise I would just shop for an open box deal on line it would probably be about the same price and risks. If you don't feel it's worth it after you get it you could probably flip it as easy as the 606

I think the 806 is well worth the $200 upgrade.

Likely won't still be there. If they even stay open that long. Its a good price for the model though.

Without getting into detailed specs or comparisons, the 806 will have preouts. Preouts allow you to connect an external amp. Also not sure if the 606 has them, but the 805 has two external zones one being internally amplified (not sure about the 806 but I recall that changed a bit).

Factory recertified 805s can be found at Onkyo and eCost often for less than $478 shipped and tax free. They are like new in my experience. The Recerted 806s are about $560. However if it were me I would pass on the display model from CC since you will have no recourse if something is wrong with it except to deal with Onk and that will involve shipping and a guess who pays the shipping? If it were in a sealed good condition box, I'd take a chance.

Correct. The more headroom the better the resulting sound.
