Strange Addiction

What is this addiction to HIFI audio? Is it chemical or purely emotional? Does it have a name? A true diagnosis? A cure (besides the economy)? Do we even want a cure?

I can safely say that we are not alone. There are others with similar addictions who understand. For example; many photographers seem to fall into similar addictions. They have even come up with names for their affliction like "Nikon Acquisition Syndrome" aka NAS. So far there is no cure for NAS and the only way to pacify is to acquire more lenses, bodies, tripods, etc. The only means of controlling the urge to acquire is by means of "spouse". The failure to comply with "spouse" can lead to an advanced form of NAS (Need Another Spouse).

Now one may think that this is the answer in than it would remove all inhibits to the habit. Wrong! This advanced form of NAS saps all financial resources and leaves the addict with nothing to acquire with. In many cases it even saps what had already been acquired. The addict is left trapped within the affliction.

What is the answer? If we all stop buying then the economy crumbles. We already see our favorite audio shops closing their doors. We need a stimulus! A little extra cash enable us to feed our desires, to keep "spouse" from questioning our acquisitions, and keeps the shops in business. We need lobbyists in Washington fighting on our behalf. Lets get a piece of that stimulus pie!

Though it is pretty cool we can all talk about what we like out on the internet now. Used to be pretty hard to find people with the same intrests locally.

Great OP, I'm all for a bailout in this category.

Unfortunately one person's addiction is another's disease...? Do we need to attend AA meetings (Audioholics Anonymous)?
