Hello, I just got my new sc-05 Yesterday, I went to hook it up this morning and I am done other than, I have an older Pioneer Elite DVL-90 dvd.ld/cd player, I have it hooked up via the std audio/video cables, in addition there are 2 cables coming off it I don't know where to plug them in on my new sc-05, one is AC3-RF out which went to AC3-RF in on my old VSX-09TX, the other is coming from Digital Video Out port labeled pcm/ac3 digital to AC3-PCM on my old receiver. I have cable in to my cable box, hdmi from cable box to receiver, hdmi from receiver to TV, do I even need these anymore, if so where do they go since there are no ports with same labels on new sc-05.

Im thinking you need a connection for audio from the 90, If so run it into any open optical, or coax connection. Perhaps DVD, or what have you. Does your player have component out, if so I would go that route to get the best picture. However regardless of how you have it connected you can go into setup menu and tell the receiver how the player is connected and it wil handle the rest. Hope that makes sense and helps you out.

The AC3-RF connection was actually for laserdisc audio only if I recall. So as Sherardp said, if you have a Toslink (optical) out, that should work for DVD/CD. If you are still playing laserdisc, I'm not sure if you can pick up the AC3 off the laserdisc which may be an issue for you. Component should be fine for all the video.

yes dvd seems to be fine with the component cables, I played a dvd and audio seemed fine, a friend of mine seemed to think those cables had to do with digital audio and if I wanted better sound from my dvds i needed to connect them to something or get a f/c cable

You will need a AC3 RF demodulator if you want DD from your LD. You can find them used sometimes on the web. they will go in between your digital connection on you receiver you are using and the RF output on the LD player.
Pioneer has only one receiver left with the demodulator built in the 09. There are not alot of LD fans left but I hang on to my player for old times sake I guess.

Another question, do I need to get a fibre cable to get Digital sound out of my DVD player, it is now just hooked up via component cables.

If I understand the question, YES you will unless you are using a Digital Coaxial cable. The 3 Component cables (red, blue, green) are video only cables and carry the picture. Audio will have to be Optical, Coax, or HDMI for digital audio except for the mentioned AC3-RF which would be for laserdisc only. The red/white RCA cables for audio would NOT be digital.

Yes you need optical cable to get digital audio. As for remote, I recommend Harmony One as a Universal, I just scored one on Ebay and it does everything well. Highly recommended as it should hold you a long time.

I wouldn't mind connecting that SC-05 up to my speakers. I was looking at buying one but had to settle for a yammie for right now. I just read a review where a guy checked it and the SC-09 out and he said that for the price difference,he would definatly get the SC-05.

Bet your going to be very happy
