A pair of Mobile Monitor 571, Mobile Monitor 651 and one Kenwood MP538u head unit later and I realized I want an amp for my speakers. I really love these speakers because of the low ohm rating so i can pull a lot of power out of my HU. This morning however, the speakers clipped a little bit and I had only been blasting it for about 20 minutes.

I'm looking at a Kenwood 8404 or 6404. what are your thoughts? should i look into a different amp? I really want to keep the manufacturers identical on my HU and amp, and I'm willing to change my Polk-Kenwood set up for example with a Polk-Alpine, but there are just too many options out there.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

forget about manufacturer identicals. get a nice amp for them polks. a nicer hu couldn't hurt either. but amp, at this point, is more important for you. by all means if u have the cash use it on a new hu also.

what would you recommend? its just too many choices out there, and looking at all the specs in the world wouldnt help because it would be better to hear each amp setup

Are you deadset on getting the discontinued JL Audio amp?

If not Sonic Electronix has the Power Acoustik LFA4-1200 for $114.99.

The LFA4-1200 gives you a bit more power, 125w vs. 110w (JL's) at 2 ohms.
Its signal to noise ratio is a little higher, 97 db vs. 104 db (JL's).
However, its THD rating is a little better, 0.02 THD vs. 0.08 THD (JL's).

BTW, they will price match it to MillionBuy.com price of $99.95 if you ask. ;)

If you like Kenwood amps, get one. In their price point theyre just as good as anything else and will be well made.

Okay, well i want to be able to pull the most from my speakers and looking at the kenwood 8404 i see its power rating below what the polk audio speaker's recommend. Would it still be sufficient?

75w rms from the amp to 100w rms speakers

Youll be better off with 100. Granted the difference between 75 watts and 100 watts is only about 2 db, its still better to have the extra power. Itll help reproduce those low frequencies.
