Polk Monitor 7's, which one's?

As a firm believer in good things come to those who wait, I have finally found a pair of Monitor 7's nearby that didn't necessitate a plane ride into different time zones. (And all you 'lower 48ers' think they grow on trees and goodwill tables)
My brother responded to the ad and confirmed that the proper sounding noise came out of them at the demo.
He(brother) explained to me that they have fuses on the binding post cups, and that the tweeter, which is all black, does not have the wording 'Polk Audio' written on them anywhere.
I guess my question is, was the deciding factor on Peerless tweeters that they all had a 'dimple' or hole in the center? Or were ones offered without said distinguishing characteristic?
I will be in Anchorage to get them in a few weeks, and am jonesing to know. That and if I need to be supporting the fine folks at Polk and Parts Express I can get busy ordering parts.:D
I picked them up for $80.00 for the pair.
Happy trails,
Nathan

Those look like 7B's with Peerless. You're in for a treat!!!!

I've heard the holes were made by Polk to dissipate tension in the dome, but you know how people make up things around here ;)

I replaced the tweeters in mine (without the holes), and found no difference.

Thanks to those who responded. I had hoped to score a pair with the Peerless in them after hearing of other's positive reviews. When I lay my hands on them I will confirm the tweet. Of course if I get the bug, I will upgrade the xo's. I will listen to them first and 4most to see if it is needed.

I was just excited to see speakers for sale up here besides panasonic and sony htib sets. To say that items of interest are few and far between is being kind.

    Sweet:)
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

You're gonna love those Peerless tweets.;) The Peerless tweets are the ones with black face plates, black domes and slanted leads, just like those ones pictured. The regular Peerless tweets have the hole in them(supposedly to relieve tension on the dome, as Ricardo said), and the other ones, known as Denmark Peerless, don't have the holes in them. I've never heard the Denmark tweets, but from what I've gathered they sound basically the same.

I don't think you'll find it necessary to upgrade the XO's right off the bat. I'm using mine with the stock XO's, and they sound awesome as is. I'll upgrade the XO's eventually, but I have other gear to upgrade first.

What are you going to be running them with?

I have an Adcom 555II (careful with the volume), with a Denon 3910 as a source. With the new addition, I am going to have to start trolling for a new amp, as it is attached to some 10's right now.

I do have one of those fatman tube amp/ipod combos (13 watt) that I may use with another Clist find of a Denon 2910. I will listen and see.

The possibilities are endless, or at least numerous.:D

That model has fuse protection to protect the tweeter.
Make sure the correct value fast acting fuses are installed and you will be ok.

Well, I finally made it into town and was able to put my eyes on them. They have the all black dome tweeter, with holes in the middle, so I am pretty confident that they are the Peerless. The grills and bodys, whil not perfect look pretty presentable for their age.
Hooked them up to my brothers ancient gear a NAD 1020 Pre, with an 'APT Corporation' Power Amp 1?!?!?
We found out that one of the amps channels didn't work, (they haven't been hooked up for at least 10 years) but confirmed that all the drivers function by swapping some wires back and forth.
They are securely wrapped with pillows and blankets, inside of some boxes for the trip home.
Will let everyone know, if interested, in what they sound like once set up. A Denon 2910 was found for them.
    Happy Trails,
    Nathan

    Good score on the 7b's.

We have it good in the lower.
I picked up my 7b's for $4.95 for the pair from Salvation Army

The main thing is the sound quality.
    You will love them.
    Some advice,
If you are running older or less than new, re. ARC amplifier, be sure your tweeter fuses are the right spec: right rating and type. I would have your power amp completely checked over and recapped, it likely needs it.
If a cap lets go you could lose a tweeter, speaker or worse even with the correct fuses.

    2T,
Thanks for the price comparo, always like to know that I paid too much!!! By the way, $4.95 will almost buy you a gallon of gas here.
The old gear was my brother's and when they get to my house, they will be attached to a Denon receiver, ADCOM 555II, or a FatMan knock off tube setup. Not sure which.
My brothers gear came out of the bottom of his closet, but I wanted to make sure everything worked before boxing them up and putting them on a plane.
I recognized the NAD pre(at least I knew the NAD brand, not that particular pre) of course, but his amp was a mystery to me.
I have been told by the freight company that they will show up on Tue/Wed.
    Happy Trails,
    N
