Beware! Of Packing Peanuts?

Them damn packing peanuts, arent they annoying? Well this is how annoying they can be. I purchased a used Mirage sub a year ago off ebay, and was very happy with my purchase(somebody selling for a friend didnt know how to list it and I got it for $52 and thats with shipping included!), anyhow I had noticed a couple times at low volume there was a somekind of rattle coming from it. Very annoying to someone who hears everything! So I just dismissed it and turned it up so I couldnt here it:D, like any annoyed listener might. Well yesterday while watching Nascar it was there again, so after the race I decided to venture inward and to my delight I found the problem, Packing Peanuts had come in through the port on the back of the sub during shipping! They were lodged everywhere inside, thus with the thumping of the sub they would cause the annoying little rattle I was hearing. Ive been listening all day and no more rattles. So everyone BEWARE of the packing peanuts!
Most of them only hear how loud it sounds, and the rest of us hear everything else -

Never use them in shipping either.....they are totally useless if you ask me. I would rather use newspaper than those things.

I wonder if the static caused by those things could damage the electronics on the boards in gear. I would think solid state components would be more susceptible to static.

I've used them in the past, but only in a double-boxed context or when the item was completely sealed in several layers of bubble wrap.

Using them in a manner that allows them to get into the innards of gear is just plain ignorant or lazy packaging.

I had a guy send me my LSiC in a complete and utterly lacking box with nothing around it but packaging peanuts. I fished them out of the port for about an hour before giving up. Bet there are still 2-3 of them in there.

Surprisingly enough, once I got over my anger, wiped it down with some windex, and hooked it up, it worked like new.

Nothing but dumb luck that it wasn't trashed during shipping.

I wonder if sticking the vacuum hose through the port would get all the packing peanuts out? you should.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I really hate those things, and as of late every package I receive has had them. Not to mention that they fly out of the box and everywhere , I think thats what makes me go over the top.

Packing peanuts drive me crazy...Whenever I get a package that has packing peanuts in it, I'm always picking them up all around the house for a week afterwards...lol

They aren't exactly the most secure packing material either, they shift around to much.

A few years back we had a guy leaving the company. On his last day, one of the guys got his car keys and they filled his car to the brim with peanuts. Took him two hours to get them all out of the car.

I would of just rolled down the windows, left a door open, and circled the company parking area. Wouldn't want to be accused of leaving with company property!

If you have a toddler (like us) those packing peanuts are pretty serious choking hazard. they should be banned.
