Where to get a cable box?

I need to get a cable/converter box. New TV coming next week and I need a box so I can move the old TV to the bedroom. I'm on Comcast and want a HD box. Comcast wants $6.99 a month to rent one, boxes I see on e-bay are averaging $100 for a DVR (don't really need DVR). I didn't see anything on Craigslist.
Anyone got any ideas?

Well you wouldn't break even on the box for 14 months (assuming you buy one for 100). If you think you'll have it for a lot longer then that I guess it's a better deal. I do like the fact that it's not my box though and so when something busts, they give me a new one.

I think you should get the box from Comcast. If/when things go wrong they will give you tech support and if they can't fix the problem over the phone, they simply will replace the box.

Have a cable card slot on the TV? If you do the cable company can supply you with those for a small fee, the first one is usually free.

    Here is another solution: http://www.amazon.com/ATSC-QAM-NTSC-Tuner-Receiver/dp/B000V8XR1U/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1235311820&sr=8-12

However, you probably won't receive all the channels that comcast has to offer with this box. They lock some of the channels unless you use one of their particular boxes or a supplied cable card.

The best and obviously most expensive solution would be a Tivo HD Box. Get the lifetime subscription and there wouldnt be any monthly fees, would be a better solution if you plan on going this route for awhile. Otherwise, you could always get rid of it on Ebay or somewhere and get most of your money back since it will be unlocked with a lifetime membership for anyone.
