popping noises coming from everywhere

Amp: Polk Audio 500.4
Comps: Polk Audio SR6500
Recently my stereo system has developed a popping/thumping noise that is affected by changing volume, changing stations, changing cd's, turning power on and off, etc.
I was in the market to buy a new amp so I tolerated this pop, whincing all the time, til I got my new amplifier.
After wiring up the new amp the pop was reduced somewhat but it still persisted.
Next I changed my rca cables thinking one could have been pinched or something and narrowed the problem to the right side of my cd player, I think.
I say this because I moved the popping from the right side all the time to left side all the time by swapping the rca's at the amp's input.
My question: Is my problem definitely in the output of the cd player?
Could I have a grounding issue?
Anything I didn't think of?
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a source issue to me.

i just touched the gain to adjust my mids down a little and intermittently my sound doubled in volume
could this be a grounding issue in the signal chain?
wish I had more time to troubleshoot this but everything is just gonna be turned off for nowPioneer - DEH-80PRS

Take the amp to an audio shop, most will test them for about $15-$20.
