What amp (or receiver) should I buy?

Hey all, I just purchased a new Polk RM6750 5.1ch speaker system. My TV has a fixed analog out for audio that I was planning on running straight into the sub (which is also the receiver for the satellites). However, upon further review, I think I would rather have a variable power amplifier between the two so that I can have some say in how loud the speakers are.
That being said, would you guys suggest a straight power amplifier or a receiver? The plan is the power amplifier would be inbetween the TV and the sub/speakers. Or, on the other hand, the receiver would take from the TV and send it out to the speakers and the amp. The main difference would be where the satellites are received (sub versus receiver).
What do you guys think is my best option? I don't really want the most amazing sound experience, I just want something that's better than my 2ch built-in TV speakers.
Thank you for the help!

Find a decent quality receiver with an eye toward future upgrades, like pre amp out lines in case you want to add a separate amp down the road.

Alright, right after I posted this I looked and someone else had the exact same problem as me (in fact, they bought the same speakers from nearly the same sale as me). I'll just follow that thread.
