Going from 5.1 to 7.1 with the RM85 Set?
Hi there!
I have the RM85 set of surrounds with the PSW125 Subwoofer, and have been super happy with it. I am ready to go 7.1, and here's what I am thinking:
-I currently have the two RM8's for fronts, with the RM8 Centre Channel. The RM7's are the surrounds. I was going to move the RM7's for the "middle" surrounds, move the RM8's for the corner surrounds... And then get two new speakers for the fronts.
I live in Canada - and can't seem to buy RM8's in their own... Is there another set of speakers that would be fairly compatible? There's a pair of M20's on sale at my local electronics store... As well as a pair of TSi200's... would either of these be suitable as fronts with the RM85 set? Would prefer to keep the same style of speakers - and I'm not ready to upgrade to the big ones yet as I have only had this setup for about a year. Everything's hooked up to a Yamaha HTR6180, if that helps.
Cheers!

I use the RTi A5's and a CSi a 4 for my center, wuth the RM8's all around for surrounds. The small speakers hold up pretty well for surrounds with the larger speakers up front. They don't sound out of place at all to me, but I have never heard to many high end home theaters.
I imagine the tsi line would work well with you, if you're not super critical like some people with timber matching and all of that. If the RM8's hold up fine with my RTi A5's, they should do fine with the tsi series.
Keep in mind though, that I am fairly new to this home theater building, so all I can do is give you my experience so far with your speakers.
Were you as surprised as I was, with how well your RM 85 package sounded?
I couldn't believe how much sound came out of those little speakers.Denon 1909, want to upgrade for pre outs

I love the RM85 set... Got it in a package deal with the Yamaha receiver... And I am super happy with them! It's too bad I can't buy any of them in pairs around here though... And the Polk online store doesn't ship to Canada. So I think for $248 - the TSi200 pair might be good for the fronts... Just hoping they pair OK with the RM8 center channel speaker. And having the RM8's and 7's as the surrounds should be perfect.
My PSW125 is in for repair... So I am counting the days to it's return to have my home theater back!!!
