Getting ready to make a purchase on audiogon. Unfortunately seller has no feedback, but he does take paypal.
I can't find any guarantee on audiogon....does anybody know if paypal or audiogon will refund me if the item is not delivered?

I've never done it myself, but from what I understand Paypal is responsible for your $$$.
It sort of acts like a prepaid credit card. If there's a beef, you put in a complaint, yada, yada, yada.
    Good luck.

Does the seller have an eBay account with a seller rating? Does he have a paypal rating?

Where refunds are concerned,"... there are limitations on the maximum transaction amounts." (audiogon)

    and

"In other words, using PayPal does not in any way guarantee the merchandise itself. Please note that PayPal and Audiogon are two completely separate entities, and neither company shall be responsible for the actions of the other." (audiogon)

Personally, I would be hesitant if the item was especially fragile and/or expensive.

Have you spoken with the seller? Sometimes you can get a gut feeling after speaking with them. Good luck.
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

I've had two refunds from Paypal (both times the seller did not deliver as expected), but on ebay purchases, where there is a clear buyer protection policy.

I'm not sure there's any guarantee Paypal will respond on Audiogon purchases.

Paypal only offers buyer protection on Ebay transactions. I was recently burned on a transaction on AVS Forum and they can do nothing unless the seller has money deposited into his Paypal account. If they're looking to screw you the money will be gone long before the 10 day waiting period for a dispute is complete.

I see you figured it out. Just FYI, Audiogon is only a place to conduct transactions, they are not part of the transaction and have no responsibility to that end. However, they do have processes in place that assist you in coming to a resolution, including possible suspension or termination of a sellers account and providing the buyer with the necessary next steps to take legal action, etc. (assuming of course the seller is at fault or fails to respond). I, unfortunately experienced the process first hand as a buyer.

If in doubt, use a credit card. They will back you up much better than PaySuck ever will.

Anyplace other than ebay when paypal is used you have limited action for recourse. Believe me, before I sent someone $900 via paypal on audiogon I read every user agreement available regarding paypal and the non-Ebay policies.

Paypal will try to recover funds if the item is never delivered or not delivered as described.........but the refund is limited to what ever the balance is in the sellers paypal account. If the funds are withdrawn immediately you really have no protection.

Ebay has special coverage in place for Paypal, if you use paypal anywhere else you are limited. As F1 stated use a credit card, but also be sure to investigate their policies as well.

One card I read had very limited protection for items bought in another state from a non-retail seller.
