Windex and a soft cloth will help in cleaning the drivers...remove one of the top mid-drivers,this will enable you to reach inside the cabinet to un-bolt and remove the top caps for refinishing.

Remove the P.R. to be able to remove the bottom cap...Flat,wide pry bar or putty knife to remove the side panels for recovering.

This should keep you busy for a while:D

Yeah I took your advise and got these I also have some regular 2.3's. I posted these in another post where you suggested I get these. I got them pretty cheap and will be re-doing the tops and bottoms I dont know if i will re-finnish or make new ones. I wil also get some new grill cloth from parts express. Also am interested in information about re-building the x-over and dampining the speaker baskets. But am low on funds and will get new tweets first so this will be a slow process.

I think you should sell your 2.3's to fund a nice 2.3tl project. What are you using for amps.

No such thing I'm going to build a house out of them, HA! was thinking of seling the 2.3's or the LS 90's I had a yamaha on them that was a solid 120 per channel but it had issues so theyre back on an Onkyo. I have had mostly HT setups with no need for a serous 2 channel amp as I got these for just a project with the intent to sell but got attached to them, so definitly will be in the market for a good 2-channel. but even with just the receiver they sound amazing.

These are rated at 750 watts each right? so what would be good 300-400 a channel what are others running these with? Thanks so much in advance

I have my 2.3's running on a onkyo integra amp. I have also ran it on a sunfire 625 x 2 but I like the integra a bit better for the 2.3's.

I have also tried a kenwood ka8006 on the 2.3's with great results.

I am ordering new tweets Monday and refinnishing the end caps in the next few days. I found side cloth and grill cloth at Jo Ann and have one side and one grill done, what a difference! I should have them done in the next week or so and will post pics on above photobucket account.

    Thanks for reading!

my complements on a job well done! I found I truly enjoy restoring this stuff when I did my 1c's and welcome the chance to do another pair soon. I ordered my rdo's today and cannot wait to try them...

i used a putty knife and a small hammer to dislodge the glue... they came off quite easily for me

I don't understand this at all. Please help me.

Current out of the amp and through the speaker is limited by the interaction of voltage and impedance. I will grant that "some" SDAs are of lower impedance than others; my 1Bs for instance are at the lower end of the impedance range. Impedance certainly is frequency-dependent; but the speakers can't "crave" current unless the voltage needed to drive the current is present. And voltage, more-or-less, is controlled by the volume knob.

So--far as I know--it doesn't matter if you're playing steady-state test tones; short-term impulse tones, or plain-ol'-ordinary music. The current needed depends on the volume (voltage) and the impedance curve of the speakers.

So to say the speakers "crave" current is to say that the speakers must be played very loud.

I HAVE heard speakers that sounded terrible until the volume went up; and all speakers change somewhat in sound quality depending on playback level--but--I was not under the impression that the typical Polk SDA was at the wrong end of that continuum. My SDA's seem to have a similar "voicing" or "tone" at both low and high volume.

I'd have said you need an amp capable of supplying enough voltage to make the speaker loud enough; and at least enough current to match the impedance characteristics of the speaker when played at the desired volume. Which--frankly--is NOT THAT TOUGH unless you're trying to skate by with a cheap junk Chinese-sourced receiver; or similar mid-to-low-fidelity equipment. If it is rated for a 4-ohm load at a reasonable "watts" spec for your tastes and listening room--it's probably all you need to drive an SDA.

That's different than saying an amp for Polk speakers must be able to drive a sub-1-ohm load; in the way that certain old Apogee (Scintilla???) speakers needed the highest-current-capacity amplifiers in existence--their impedance was BRUTAL.

    What don't I understand?

All I know is I have an older Onkyo 6 ohm rated receiver powering these now and they sound frigin awesome, bass is full, I can hear everything on a cd including a bunch of stuff the artist probably didnt want you to hear. (maybe they should use these in the recording studio?). From the a bass drum to a splash cymbal and the slightest whisper in betwen, nothing escapes these. And they sound amazing at any level. But dont really understand the current thing myself.

Yeah, I could have worded that better. I should have said that they like high current amps (read beefy power supply) for their headroom capabilities at any volume, which brings out the best in SDA's.

Thats kind of what I thought. As in car audio theyre are ultra cheap Pyramid so called 1000 watt amps and then real good quality amps like JL 1000 watts amps and you can certainly tell the difference when its hooked up to a real good sub. I will be in the market for a good amp soon for these.

    Thanks all
