Hi
Looks like a good system your going to build. If you don't mind a suggestion, either add another hard drive or partition that one prior to installing the operating system. Then install the os with all the programs you normally use. After that, use Norton Ghost or Acronis and make an image of the install and put it on the 2nd partition or separate drive. This is far superior to relying on the restore fuction built into windows.
It should be a screamer of a system.
Enjoy

Nice power build, how much is all of that going to cost? -
Geeze that thing is gonna be fast. What else would you need all that power for except gaming?

Pic's please when you're done. -
I built an I7 system about a month ago and couldn't be happier. You're gonna love it.
-
should i stay with 6 gig of ram or go all out and go 12 gig?
-
I can't imagine having a system with parts less than 6 months on the market. My current system is 3 years old. I'm looking to "upgrade" it to a dual-core... but just a Pentium e2180Ludicrous gibs!

I'd buy a better GFX card.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

It's all about what you're going to be doing with it. Honestly 12gbs of memory is more than most high end servers and video production machines. If you're going to be dealing with extremely large datasets on a regular basis I'd say go for it. Otherwise, spend your money elsewhere.Lovin that music year after year.

Try this program http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1325/Real_Temp_3.00.html ....and check idle and load temps.
Version 3.0 was updated for the i7.....see what you get.
Mine is aircooled with this.... http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/cpu/u120ex-1366rt/product_cpu_cooler_1366rt.html ... curious to see compared to your liquid cooled rig.

That's incredibly good advice, IMO. I'd also store a copy of the image on removable media or a physically different hard drive. You still need to back up all your personal files and stuff, but that's even easier if they're all on a partition by themselves.
Virus infection, file system corruption, even hard drive failure-- you're back up and running like nothing happened in 10 minutes. -
shadow, if i were to go with air cooling, i've had my eyeballs on that coolermaster v8.
the thermal paste i went with was ocz freeze. i thought i had put it on too thick at first so i removed my waterblock and wiped some off and things ran hotter. so now when i'm not so lazy i gotta re-apply some and leave it be...that is until evga releases their "classified" mobo. i'm thinking of stepping up from my regular evga x58.
...and no, i didn't lap my cpu nor the waterblock.

do you think i can run 3.0giga hz on the stock cooling?

I just build a sweet i7 system on NewEgg just for the heck of it. Maaaaan, that'd be awesome. Also racked up $2300 worth of stuff, too, though.
