Audyssey question

I was wondering if an audyssey mic from an Onk(audyssey 2eq) would work with my marantz(multieq) receiver? Is it the same mic, or do I have to have one specific to my receiver? The reason I ask is because my friend has the mike with his Onk HTIB, and I was going to buy the mic for mine tomorrow. If the mic will work though, I see no reason to buy one if I can just borrow his. Thanks in advance for your help:D

I have no idea on this, but in case no one knows, I would guess yes and no. I'm thinking that the mic's are calibrated to a certain degree to work with the program (audyssey/multieq) so the mic might work, as far as function, but the results might not be that good.

I take it you lost your mic? Your AVR does have Audyssey correct?

Assuming that it does...I don't see why it wouldn't work. All it is, is a microphone. All of the calculations and calibrations are done within the AVR, so I'd imagine it would work.

Honestly, I'd just buy the Marantz mic. Each brand uses different mics, and the general response curve of the mic is taken into account in the receiver so that Audyssey gives you a more accurate reading. I'm not sure what the Marantz mics look like, but I know Denon's mic is vastly different from Onkyo's, so unless the Marantz mic looks identical to the Onkyo one... get the Marantz mic.

Dumb question: Have you tried calling Marantz and telling them you bought a refurb and didn't get a mic? I'd be surprised if they didn't just send you one.

    From the Audyssey FAQ......

    Is the microphone calibrated?
Yes, the microphone is calibrated to a 1/4" industry-standard measurement microphone. The correction is applied to the measurements as they are being taken. It is important to use ONLY the designated microphone that comes with the product as the calibration curve built-in to the product is specific to that microphone. It is also critical to point the microphone upwards and to place it at ear height. Any other microphone will have different characteristics and thus will not produce the right results.

    Hope that helps,

I bought my marantz 5002 from accessories4less.com and it didnt come with a mic. But when I called they finally sent me a Audyssey mic instead of the MRAC-1 mic. But the mic has worked well to measure distance and volume of each speaker. However, for some reason it wont measure the subwoofer. I actually have to unplug the sub or I will get an error during the calibration.
