Hello

Well I finally am going to get my old original Pioneer system back online again. I bought it back in 1977, SX-950, HPM-100's, and a PL 510A.

I sent the receiver off to this outfit, have talked to the guy quite a bit, he was restoring two SX-950's this week....

Anyway, just wanted some input about a cartridge, the turntable could use a new one. This is what I was looking at:

Thanks!!

I would be interested to see how the SX-950 looks and performs when you get it back.

    Hello

I was using the receiver up till about 9 years ago, mainly watching VHS movies. I hadn't played any vinyl through it for much longer then that. I know it was losing its original luster, lots of static in the controls, power switch was very hard to switch on and off. I had an ADC equalizer and a Pioneer dynamic processor run through it also. CD's sounded terrible on it....

This is the one I had:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/PIONEER-RG-2-DYNAMIC-PROCESSOR-BLUE-METERS-L-K_W0QQitemZ230320198367QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item230320198367&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

I remember a friend of mine cussing me out for running that stuff through it, said it made it sound worse. Man, I can still remember how great it sounded when I first bought it. So thats what I'm trying to get back to and hopefully it will all work out....

Just wanted to post a status report on the receiver. It got there in one piece, was kinda sweating that one. I did double box it so that helped.

He called me the next day and he said it was a good candidate for the restoration, should be $325 like whats posted in the ebay auction. He said it should be done by Monday. It helped that he had just got done with two other sx-950's.....

I'll post again when I get it back....

    Hello

Well I got the receiver back today, all in one piece, made the trip just fine. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, got the DL-160 cart today too, just need to get it installed. Also got one of those way excellent mats from Herbie. Very nice mat compared to that sobogel one I tried, didn't care for that thing at all...

Also attached is a pic of the parts he replaced, looks like a couple of the capacitors started to leak a little...

SCHWEET. I have a minty SX-780, Pioneer 8-track also minty (circa 1974), and a pair of HPM40's in very good condition--the same system I had as a teen. I also had a Pioneer PL-512 TT in the day, but haven't bought a replacement for that role.

Well I tried it out this morning, played my old Montrose Album, some Steppenwolf, and Harlequin. I know the Montrose album was used and abused over the years but played and tracked just fine. Sounded awesome for an old piece of vinyl. My wife is hooked again too....

I got three new albums from J&R all anniversary editions on the heavier vinyl. Not much of a Michael Jackson fan but got Thriller for my wife. The other two were Dark side and the Black album, Metallica.

Was floored the way Thriller sounded on it, amazing the way new vinyl sounds. Very crisp, clear, you can hear all the instruments and sounds distinctly. The whole sound spectrum is very well supported. I'm thinking that heavy vinyl makes a difference too....

Anyway, am very happy so far. I manged to get one of Joes Clamps and am looking forward to that also...

The link to his ebay restoration auctions is up on my first post. He's got a phone number in the auction listing also. I just called him, I didn't do the auction....

Ive got a major problem with System Restore. When i try to do a system restore the progress bar fills up about 1/3 the way along then jumps to full.the pc reboots as normal then screen comes up with "unable to restore to this point try another restore point".I did this and same thing happens .Also i am trying to restore because i wanted to do a speed check on my connection as i have just upgraded my BT package. The dialogue box on "ADSL.ORG",was greyed out and it said it was a problem with my java runtime environment version and solution was to uninstall the java and reinstall the current vers again .I did this and now i cant install the java at all the windows installer just stalls (excuse the pun )plz can anyone help
