We tested my bronco today and with 1 12" i hit a 148.3. i thought that was pretty good for a non SPL setup.

That is very respectable! That would probably be good for a win or at least a 2nd place at most local competitions.

set up is one memphis mojo 12" 2ohm dvc (the new 2009 line of mojo that is solid black not the old ones that were multicolored) powered by a memphis belle amp wired at 1 ohm. sub is getting around 1200rms. the box is a slot loaded box that is about 19x18x22 if i remember right (its really big ) with about a 17x16x2.25 slot. dont quote me on the box dimensions though. like i said though its really loud and pounds the low notes.

Port Wars? Cool for big numbers but not "real" SPL. :D

Need to do it like MECA does - they meter at the head rest which results in lower db's but it takes away the benefit of one vehicle over another. Got to a point where you either had to have a Honda CRX or a mini van to compete.

no port wars here. we were just holding the meeter about half way between the front seats and around chest level. it was some audio control unit they had at the shop.

Oh, ok. Yeah in competition the meter is up front. Different orgs use different placements. That would probably have been a 130 or high 120 in competition.

Yea, I know, but it was fun NTL. I've worked on a current world record holding truck for 0-1800 (156.3 legal, 163.0 outlaw) several times. If you sit in that truck when it goes off...if you dont hold your breath, itll knock the wind out of you.

But its just fun to build a port wars box. I wanted to build a huge box in the bed with a bunch of partsexpress' cheapest 15s...but never came up with the funds to do it...oh well.

Steve Cook, who holds something like a half a dozen world records, has moved over to sound quality and he's built a Chevy Avalanche running Zapco amps, RE subs and Morel speakers and dude this thing is INSANE! I never thought it was possible to listen to SQ at 160 db! This thing absolutely slams and was the hit at world finals last year. At one point there was a line outside to listen to "You Dropped a Bomb On Me". Yes its super loud and awesome but the scary part is it sound really really good!

    I wish I had:
    A) Enough money to do that
or B) Enough skill where people would give me equipment for free :)

hey mac we also held it up near the front right windshield where he said they test it at in competitions and it did a 137.

im not sure what branch/org he competes in but i know he knows his stuff. he has been in car audio his entire life. his sq show car for the shop is a scion xb (worst car ever in my opinion) its got the focal 3 way berillium components, and 2 arc audio 8's, one under each front seat with 2 4ch amps for the mids and one 2ch amp for the subs. that was his setup last year. this year he is in the process of adding a 12 in the rear while keeping the 8s and swaping all his amps to memphis. i have never really been a fan or even heard many arc speakers but those 8's sound pretty nice with just them and nothing bigger. his mids and highs made me feel like i was at the concert when he played an eagles dvd in it. i feel that my mm6501's are nice but cant hold a candle to his set up.

Focal Be's are also about 10x the cost of the 6501s.

The dudes insane! He went to a couple shows at the beginning of last season and a couple judges docked him for some resonance. So by the nest show he'd completely taken out his ENTIRE INSTALL and slapped several layers of Dynamat over the entire interior. He has unreal talent in custom installations and he owns his own shop so hes a monster!

His SPL van is legendary for imploding windshields. He was hitting well into the 170's in mini van that was drivable. Not one of those 40,000 pound monsters that have to be trailered to a show then pushed thru the lanes. Once this dude gets his chops in SQ, he'll win a dozen world championships.

This is the back of his SQ Avalanche.
