Hi mates,

Would you guys please assist me how to make the 5.1channel works?
i purchased Pioneer VSX-D509S for my 5.1ch speakers, but the thing is I'm using my PC as the input. I bought RCA to stereo cables to connect the amplifier with my PC. It only works in normal dvd mode, and it only works for my Fronts, if i turned it to 5.1mode then the fronts even do not work at all.

Do you know what problem am i having here?
Any assistance would be highly appreciated, and if you does not have time to reply, please just ignore it, i'm so sorry to take your time.

Regards,
Gerald

PS: on the manuals, it says that we need to use DVD mode to run 5.1 ch speakers, but the thing is, when i click the 5.1ch mode (under the DVD mode), even the front speakers do not work, which made me so confuse.

There's your problem. You only have a stereo connection, so you will only get stereo sound. You probably need to get an optical cable to connect the computer to the Pioneer. Hard to say without knowing what options your PC has.

He would still be able to use Dolby Pro-logic or DTS:NEO without a digital cable though. It won't be Dolby Digital, but he should still be able to get surround sound.

Don't quote me on it...but it sounds like their may be something wrong with your receiver.

    Hi gerzzzz.

What is the make and model of your computer?

Do you know the make and model of the soundcard in your computer?

What audio outputs do you have from the soundcard (on th back of your computer)?

What Operating System is your computer running?

YEAH Finally there's a computer pro here.
    Mate,
My mother board is Gigabyte GA-P31-SEG and im using the standard soundcard, not sure what make and model it is.

    There are 3 outputs there,
on the manual book, it says that it supports 5.1ch.
    left - center/sub
    mid - fronts
    right - rears

    My OS is Window XP

    Thanks man.

You need to get 2 more of the stereo cables and run them to the 5.1 channel input on the back of you receiver. Just match the front to fronts, rears to rears, the sub /center ones you may have to flip on the jacks on the back to make sure the center is hooked to center, and the sub is hooked to sub. You also need to be using a program the will out put the 5.1 channel (media player/dvd player, what ever.)

Yes buddy, logically it should work. But in fact, it does not even give the 2.1 sound when i only plugged one cable outta 3 outputs. The fronts still quiet.
    That makes me sooooo confuse.

And i've been trying to run it with windows media player which should work with 5.1ch mode

That board also has optical and coax digital outputs.

Are you using Gigabyte's drivers, or the default driver that Windows installed? Also, make sure the driver is set to output 5.1 and not SPDIF. On my souncard when I select 5.1 it defaults to "digital out only", I have to go in and uncheck that box.
