705 System Question

I recently installed my Home Theater with an Onkyo 606 receiver and the Polk 705 Speaker as a 5.1 setup. The system sounds great in my 35' x 18' room.

I would like to add two more speakers to make it a 7.1 system. I'm considering two options:

1) Buy 2 better front speaker, such as a pair of RM8's and use the RM7's as the rear speakers, or

2) Just buy 2 cheaper speakers for the rear.

I'd appreciate some advice. Also, if I should just by 2 cheap speakers for the rear, any suggestions? Should I stay within the Polk RM system or will anything due.

Thanks!

Well, of those two choices I'd lean towards getting better front speakers myself.

That's going to give you a much bigger improvement than switching to 7.1.

IMO 7.1 really isn't anything special yet, as there are barely any movies even being released in 7.1 at this point.

I've been using 7.1 for a while now, and I just recently rearranged my living room. I didn't have quite enough wire to make the surround back runs, so I just left it in 5.1. I'm not really in a hurry to get the wire to hook them up now after using it in 5.1 for a while. It does have it's advantages...but at this point they're fairly minimal.

Have you looked into possibly getting some bookshelf speakers for your front channels? They're a bit bigger if that's an issue, but they're going to vastly improve your setup over the RM7's in front.

By the way, welcome to Club Polk.:)
