Basic, basic hookup questions

I have my stereo hooked up on one side of the room ( currently listening to music only). I am purchasing a new entertainment center so I can hook up the stereo to the Tv/cable box/dvd. Can anyone tell me what hookup cables I need to hook up the stereo to tv/cable box/dvd player and what connects with what. I have different colored cables all over the house, but not sure what I need. Any help would be appreciated

It is an Onkyo 8555. Has many hookups. Also have a sub already hooked up.

Page 18 in your manual describes hooking up componets. You could use it as Video and Audio switcher using yellow, red and white cables.

If you do not have the manual, you can download it from Onkyo's web site.

I believe I have yellow, white and red cables. Any need to upgrade these cables, or will any set do? Thanks for your help

Based on the manual, no, you don't need to upgrade the cables, since it doesn't do any video up coversion. The standard composite cables will work, unless you want/ can run component, or S-video from the DVD player to the TV, and just run the audio to the receiver.
What style tv do you have?
