Listening Positions . . .

I've discovered my CD of Eva Cassidy live sounds best when I have some Kettle One in my right hand, my left foot up under my right thigh in a half indian style position and an open State and Local Government Law Text balanced on my left knee. This half buddha position produces similar results with Nora Jones Live in Austin on LP, but I think the angle of my left knee coupled with the hard surface of the text book over-accents the midrange treble a bit. I've compensated for this quandary by straightening my legs out and sitting back on my couch in a full plank position. To really tweak this position out, I am balancing a Heineken on my belly applying the same theories employed by the geniuses who made the Elemental Voice Hi-Finator.

Rock on!

Being left-handed, I have found that, generally speaking, everything good sounds better with either a micro-brew, or a glass of wine, in my left hand. Of course, this is also coupled with a recliner, and the foot rest elevated, in the music sweet spot.

I heard with those speakers that if you lift your leg to release some air, you're already out of the sweet spot, can you confirm this? :D

How sweet is your sweet seat?

I sat off axis last week for the first time in years and I was shocked at how good it sounded. Of course, sitting a few feet off axis didn't sound precisely the same as the sweet spot; however, it had the same head bobbing effect, and that's all that matters.

I can confirm the Kettle One provides improved musicality and just more enjoyment overall. I find a laptop can also provide subtle improvements. Of course running on batteries to reduce any interference.

My speakers sound pretty good off axis, but seriously the mesmerizing 3d effects somehow possible with stereo is only available when I am dead nuts center and have my speakers and furniture arranged perfectly.

One thing I've rediscovered is how good many speakers sound without toe-in. The off-axis experience is much better IMHO than when the speakers are toed-in. Some speakers, such as Totems are designed to fire straight-ahead.

I admit to being a bit biased about the concept that speakers should still sound good (not perfect) when off axis by a fair amount. To me it's a nod to real world acoustics, where many of us have to share listening space with other decor and uses.
