My USB port died on me. So now the only way I can use a mouse is to use the PS/2 mouse. Anybody out there have a PS/2 mouse or USB to PS2 adapter so I can use a USB mouse in a PS/2 port.

I ran up and down Bestbuy, Circuit City, Sears today. No luck. Seems like there's no such thing as a PS/2 mouse anymore ....

Kind of hard to type or navigate without a working mouse.

Sal you're a genius. I might go with the USB PCI card if I run out of option.

Ok this is a heartbreaking decision. Just opened up my case. 2 PCI slots. One has an Barracuda Dolby Live audio card and one has a network card ><
One of em will have to go.

LOL. I got it. I have one mini PCI-E slot. Maybe they sale usb cards for those. Man I hate waiting for days without a mouse though. Going on travel soon though so I guess it won't matter.

Can't you just buy one of these and not have to worry about the PCI thing? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1220387&CatId=469
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

That's what I was thinking also. Wanted to avoid an internet purchase for now since I won't be home to receive it anytime soon.

Seems like the kind of thing you could easily find at Radio Shack, is there one nearby?

That's a great Idea Bob!, I wonder if it only works for a mouse or any USB device?

I might have to buy a couple to find out ;)

I just bought one of these at RadioShack less than two months ago. I couldn't find a serial mouse for my son's PC and this was available at $3.99

Right, PS/2 ports aren't wired into a USB controller, they're into special ports designed specifically for keyboards and mice. The USB to PS/2 adapter can "translate" the keyboard and mouse signals to PS/2, but anything else would just look to the computer like gibberish coming in on the keyboard or mouse port.

I've got a USB to PS/2 adapter you can have. PM your address- I'll only work for KB& mouse though.

I'd be a little more concerned about the USB crapping out- could mean that your power supply is about to eat it, or could just be a loose wire. have you opened it up to make sure everything is tight?

He doesn't live too far from my house. I've been to his place a few times and vice versa. I drive by where he lives on my way home from work. He gave me some of his equipments a few months back so anything to help him out.

What happened was I got a wireless USB mouse from work last year as a gift. Finally got around to plugging it in this week and the darn USB wireless mouse didn't work. Unfortunately, after plugging it in, nothing else works in the USB port now. All 6 ports...

I wish I just left it alone and never plugged the cursed wireless usb mouse in. I should have been happy with my wired usb mouse which worked for over a year.

Tried it seems still dead. Will it's not exactly dead. What it's been doing is sometimes when you boot up you can move the mouse for a second, then it freezes up. Or sometimes when you move the mouse it freezes, moves 1000 pixels, then freezes again. Process repeats until it perma freeze. I've gone as far as flashing the bios and clearing the CMOS.

    Try this:

    Shut down the PC.

    Unplug the power cord.

While the power cord is unplugged press and hold in the power button for 20 seconds.

after the 20 seconds plug the computer back in and boot it up and try your usb ports.

    let me know,

    Sal
