that SC-05 is a bad ****. I run the SC-07 and the Iceamps sound incredible. We also had another member here purchase the 05 recently and he loves it. The only reason to consider the 94 is price range, they can be had for around 800, but if you can spare the extra coin the 05 would be the ticket. It should last you quite a long time as it decodes everything out, offers excellent SQ even in 2 chan. listening. The 05 gets my vote.

Sherardp is right on, i think im the member he makes mention to, cant say enough good thing's about this receiver. As he said, the Iceamps, MCACC speaker calibration, some great decoding formats, and what i was really after, terrific 2 channel performance! highly recommend the sc-05. It was pricey, but after you hear it, you wont mind eating spaggehtiO's for awhile.:D

The 05 has a "regular" USB input in addition to the USB memory input. As I am into computer audio, I would take the 05 for that reason.

I have the Pioneer VSX01TXH and I'm happy with it, it decodes all the latest sounds from DolbyTrue and the rest. Is the Pioneer SC05/07 really worth the price of over $1300 when you can get pretty much 95% of all the features on the SC05/SC07 that you can get on the VSX01TXH? They have the VXH01 on ebay for $550 and when you compare the specs they share over 95% of the same specs, but one of the few things the higher end models have is more HDMI ports and more S-ports and video ports and a "few" other little features but they both share the same main most important things which is decoding the latest sounds. All four receivers VSX01, VSX03, SC-05/07 do new lossless formats ("DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution, Dolby® TrueHD and Dolby® Digital Plus" ) and room tuning. Pioneer®'s full line of A/V receivers work seamlessly with Pioneer's 2008 KURO displays and Blu-ray Disc® players to deliver the ultimate HD picture and sound performance for a truly emotional response in the living room. The Elite VSX-03TXH and VSX-01TXH join Pioneer's leading receiver from 2007 - the VSX-94TXH - to round out the entire 2008 offering. All three models flawlessly pass a 1080p picture with full reproduction capabilities of all new high resolution audio formats.

How many HDMI ports do you need today when the new plasma/lcd's, blu-ray players, recievers make it easier to connect with fewer HDMI wires that simplify the connections?

Here are the specs of the Pioneer VSX01TXH and the SC-07:

Well, i liked a "few" of the little features offered up by the sc-05 more than the 01, such as 130w per channel compared to 110. The advanced audio features and modes, topped off by the Icepower amplifier module which is getting great reviews. Heard both units and was sold on the 05, not knocking the 01 at all, also a great receiver. Dont regret for a second purchasing the 05, really comes down to what you can afford.

I understand, but I think you got ripped off, if you can get the VSX01 on ebay for $550, they should have only sold the sc05 for around $800 tops today. And what are you going to need 130w per channel for? Are you playing concerts in a big open room cathedral? I was at the movies yesterday and saw the new Friday The 13th movie and my home audio I can get the db's up louder in my house on my VSX01 and Onkyo speaker system compared to the db level that the movie in the theater was set at.

Another thing on getting ripped off, people think if you pay more you get more, but the Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 system for $277 dollars will give you more power and sound than the more expensive Boston Acoustics MSC130 and many other systems over $1000. Like I said on another topic/thread people at Amazon.com are raving about the Onkyo system and trading in their more expensive systems or saying they wished they should have bought the Onkyo system. The Onkyo SKS-HT540, Onkyo SKSHT750 7.1 both under $400 will give you awesome sound.

Look what the Onkyo SKS-HT540 for $277 will give you:
    7.1 speaker system
130 watts total output on 2-way bass reflex front, center, and surround speakers
Bass reflex powered subwoofer with 230 watts output
Front and center 2-way speakers feature 5" diaphragm woofers and 1" balanced floating tweeter
Surround speakers feature a 3 1/8" cone woofer and a 3/4" balanced dome tweeter
Subwoofer construction includes a 10" cone driver

The Onkyo SKSHT750 will give you:
    7.1-channel speaker package
    7 2-way acoustic-suspension speakers
    Powered subwoofer with 230-watt amplifier
    Magnetically shielded
    Wall mountable

Polk also makes a great affordable 5.1 and 7.1 system that beats many $1000+ systems.

Like i said man, i liked the performance of the sc-05 better. Trying to offer the OP a little insight and help based on my experience with that receiver, and who the hell are you to question what features i want in a product? I dont feel i was ripped off at all. So i guess you got ripped off too, by not purchasing the Elite model below the Vsx01? WTF. Theres always something bigger and badder dude, and we all want it. So when are you gonna jump on the Onkyo SKSHT750? seeing you were taken so deep purchasing the 01?

Try articulating your thoughts without losing your temper.

At cnet.com they even rated the Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 higher than the SKS-HT750 in terms of sound quality, but they said the SKS-HT750 "looked more stylish" so more form over function for a higher price. It's like people for a while who were spending over $30 bucks for an HDMI wire or even up to $100 bucks on a 'Monster' cable that does nothing more than a $3 dollar HDMI cable.

retro how much did you pay for your speakers and what brand are they? (This should be good)

I can get better bigger sound from my $277 dollar Onkyo 7.1 speaker system than I got from my $1200+ Bose system and the Boston Acoustics MSC130 5.1 I brought back.

Your giving people on here wrong advice on the "bigger and badder" nonsense and I gave some advice to imchas on being able to get pretty much the same system that has 90% of the same features and save $1000 dollars. Should I go buy a $100 HDMI Monster cable instead of a $3 dollar HDMI cable and expect better performance? The differences in sound you will get from an sc07 to a VSX01 when hooked up to the same speakers and same tv will not be noticeable and especially for not $1000 more and I heard both setup on display hooked up to a Pioneer Kuro display.

imchas I have the Pioneer VSX-01TXH and it's fantastic, it decodes all the sounds that are most important from THX Select2 Plus Processing & Certification, DolbyTrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS, DTS-ES, DTS-HD Master Audio / High-resolution Audio, Neural THX Surround, THX-EX, WMA 9 Pro, you get 7.1 HD surround, 3 HDMI ports, s-video ports, all the ports that anyone needs and you can get the VSX01 for $550 at ebay where as the sc-05 is over $1140 and gives you one more HDMI port and the VSX-94 goes for around $900+

Also it looks like the SC-05/07 doesn't have a dedicated iPod connector. The VSX-94 and SC-09 have a connector on the back that goes with a dock. For the SC-05/07, you have to connect to the USB port on the front and use Home Media Gallery.

The sc-05 is THX select not Ultra. The SC-05 is THX Select 2 Plus like the VSX-01TXH and VSX-03TXH. The SC-07 is THX Ultra 2 Plus

Hey whats up with you? Im not giving anyone bad advice. Like i said, I was giving the OP my personal OPINION on the 05 as an owner of that unit, per his thread: SC-05 or VSX-94, what receiver to consider? I didnt tell him to go out and buy it, and to make sure he hit 50 websites to make sure he got the absolute best price. Your the Aggressor here, not me. You came on basically criticizing sc-05 owners, claiming its a ripoff and you can get the Vsx01 at almost half the price, with "95%" of the 05's features. Well thats fine, thats' your personal...........OPINION! Are you on some personal quest to save the world from what you perceive as "Audio Injustice" ? With that you fly off on some tangent about how everyones being ripped off, and we can all do better with a $277 dollar Onkyo setup, basically bringing into question your own decision to purchase the 01. Like i said earlier i also heard BOTH units and felt it was worth the extra cash to ME for the 05. I would never tell someone to: GO BUY THAT RIGHT NOW! Cmon guy, your trying to start a problem here. My speakers are all Polk's, as my sig notes, got good deals on some and maybe not so good deals on others, but i dont care! im happy.:)

lol wow, drama queen. Do you always throw hissy fits and get all emotional like this? You got ripped off bro, that's all I'm saying, not trying to "save the world' lol You're flipping off now, scroll up and read my posts and look at yours, calm down buddy. My friend has the sc-07 hooked up to the same speakers as I have and we can't even tell the difference. What these companies do is put in 3 or 4 more features like adding in 1-2 more ports on the back and the THX Ultra decoder making the consumer think it will do wonders. The THX Ultra decoder will not be noticeable compared to systems that already have THX and Dolby TrueHD, DTS MasterAudio which the VXS-01 has.

Imchas, sorry to you that this thread got out of hand. Pioneer puts out some great equipment, try to hear a few models if you can to narrow down your choice. Use your own ears for the gear you decide on. Hopefully you got something from this trainwreck of a thread that will give you some insight.

Wow, digitalvideo takes fanboi to new levels? Should anyone start a thread, you more than likely will get pelted with two things:

At cnet.com they even rated the Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 higher than the SKS-HT750 in terms of sound quality, but they said the SKS-HT750...

    and:

    I have the Pioneer VSX-01TXH and it's fantastic, it decodes all the sounds that . . . . .

I am really surprised everyone on this forum hasn't rushed out and got the Onkyo and the Pioneer too, so they can hook up with their Kuro by now. Still seems a bit fishy, almost as if you are pushing to sell things with just dropping a hint that maybe your business has these items listed on ebay. Sorry to add to the threadjack.

SC-05 is hands down a better product. Better DACS, more power, more efficient and uses the new ICEAmps.

My setup will **** on that Onkyo setup any day of the week. Stop trying to drive people away from what they want to this box setup crap. If we wanted HTIB setups surely we would have them. Be happy with your 01, and show me where to find the SC05 for 800 bucks new, perhaps used and even then you may get less than a mint product. I suggest you compare the two again, the 05/07/09 are in totally different leagues my friend.

    Wall mountable

    http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-SKS-HT540-Channel-Theater-Speaker/dp/B000GU78Z4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1234922928&sr=1-1

Polk also makes a great affordable 5.1 and 7.1 system that beats many $1000+ systems.

I'm having a little difficulty following the logic in this post.

First the Boston system is a set of speakers that has to be powered by a receiver. So are you comparing the Bostons to the Onkyo speaker set powered from the same Onkyo amp?

Secondly, how do we get from a Home Theater in a Box to mid-level Pioneer Elite receivers which would compare with Onkyo 806/876/906 AVRs relative to price.

Thirdly, the power ratings on the Onkyo Sub, i.e., 230 watts are Peak not RMS values.

And finally, with a good set of front towers you will hear a noticeable difference between lower and higher end Elite ICEpower amps because the High Current capacity, headroom and capacitance will be much greater and will be heard as tighter, deeper, greater detail, and improved soundstage.

So in short, the O5, I(n)M(y)H(umble)O(pinion) god I hate this Textmess youth is so enamoured with.

Sorry I forgot this was your original post. But yes. Congrats those new ICEpower amps are going to be the new gold standard in AVRs, I suspect.

Please do post your review when you get it set up?
