1.2 or SRS what do I have?

I picked up my speakers this weekend and I was looking at pictures of SRS and 1.2's How the heck do you tell the difference between the two from the outside?

I did try the search function on here but I only found the difference between the 1.2 and the TL version. From the tweeters I have they are not TL. The tweeters are the same as my 2.3

Here is a pic. IMG_0347.jpg

I am still figuring out if I like the 2.3's better or the 1.2 / srs. They both sound great but, they do have a slightly different sound from each other.

The back on both are pin blade and do not say 1.2 only SRS.

Another question, a friend of mine has a set also and his also say SRS on the back by the S/N but his config. is blade blade not pin blade.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help!!

The original tweeters used in "TL" line speakers are the SL3000, and like their new replacement RDO198-1, have a black ring around their jet black rubberized silk dome.

Neither of the Polks in the photo you posted (NICE SPEAKERS !!!) look to be TL series. The tweeters look to be SL2000's (Sliver Coil commonly referred to as "fish eye"). These tweeters also have "Polk Audio" / "Silver Coil Dome" stamped into the black rectangular plastic rim.

Beyond that, you need to remove and inspect the back of the 6.5's

--- Original SDA SRS's use 8- MW6503's in each cabinet.
--- The SDA SRS 1.2's and 1.2 TL's both use 4- MW6503 stereo drivers (closest to center) and 4- MW6511's SDA effect (outside) drivers so the tweeter is the quick visual differentiator between these two models.

Since yours are pin-blade, I would venture to guess that they are 1.2s.

BTW, that is a pretty sweet collection of speakers you have going on there. :D

Polk used 3 separate crossovers on the 3 models, but every once in a while I think there were irregularities in the blade/blade and pin/blade supply, and I might be wrong here, but I think the only 100% certainty is looking at the 6.5's.

That's a very nice collection you've got there! I've always loved old jukeboxes, though I don't have any myself. Very cool.

Thanks for all of the replies!

I got the dart board and the pinball machine all in a package deal!

    The party? ANYTIME!!

Some people ask me why do I have all of this in the basement.... Well, party is one reason. If someone spills something, I don't have to worry about the cement getting ruined!

Ho ya the other reason, I like the way my system sounds in the basement! More room for the stuff to breath and no wood or carpet or anything to suck up the sound.

I used to have it up in the living room but, I honestly like the sound better in the basement then up stairs.

Just curious what you found out when you pulled a driver? I'm guessing 1.2s because of the pin/blade.

    Mee too!! LOL

I tried to take one out but, they have some kind of different screw. None of my hex or star or metric stuff will fit it. The passive has regular Phillips screws and so do the tweeters but the drivers do not. My 2.3's are all Phillips but theirs are not. Any help on what size this is? Everything I have is too big or too small.

I also forgot to mention, all of the drivers have a marking on them of SR 142/17 if that means anything?

The drivers and crossover of my 1.2TLs appear to take a 9/64 Allen wrench.

SR 142/17: I don't know what this number signifies. On the back of the drivers it should say MW-65** - with the ** indicating 03 or 11.

Sorry for the edit. The only phillips on my speakers are the inside screws on the tweeters. The outside of the tweets and the passive are torx/star shaped.

    Hope this helps.

    thanks Brett!!

There is a difference between the sound on the 1.2's and the 2.3. The 2.3 seem more focused and a little more mellower then the 1.2's. The sweet spot also just moved back 5 feet on the 1.2's

I have seen many people upgrade the tweeters on them also with a silk dome? What is the upgrade model number? I got them for a good price and 3 hour drive each way sooooo.........

I think the cloth 1st, then tweeters.

    Thanks all!!

LOL I agree. the person I got them from said they used the 1.2's as rear speakers with b&w 801 for fronts. He let his cat kill the cloth!! I would have had it declawed at that point.
