Who has heard these? My dad has 2 pairs sitting on in the garage and is willing to trade me a pair for my yamaha receiver. The woofers need to be reconed tho. Anyway -- who has heard it? what do you think of them?

They are probably "The New Advent Loudspeaker" with walnut front edge and corners. A great speaker. Foam kits are $25 - get the good one, not the cheap imitation."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

Full reconing is only required if there is damage to the cone or the voice coil (rubbing sound when you push the cone in). Please be cautious of any company that insists you recone when only the foam edges have deteriorated. Reconing can change the charicteristics of the speaker.

Do NOT re-edge with rubber. It will alter the original performance of the woofer significantly.
These are a very popular speaker amongst those who love the 'East coast sound'.
Visit www.classicspeakerpages.net and browse the Advent threads. TONS of info on recapping, stacking, etc...
New foam will last you 15-20 years. Get a good kit as others suggest.
Also suggest recapping while you have the woofer out for refoaming. -
I think Sid may have it under control after 5 years.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore
