Unless I'm missing something, the Pioneer VSX 94 is much more expensive than the Onk 706. Not sure you can/should compare AVR's in different classes. Also you need to let people know how you will use these pireces. Mostly HT? Will you do much 2-channel listening? From what I've read, the Pioneer most likely has better audio.
MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370
    OFFICE: Polk Lsi7; REL T3; HK 3490; CA 840W; Onkyo C-S5VL
    BENCHED: CS20; OWM3s

Keep looking around you should be able to score a brand new 94 for around 800 bucks, if you cant find one at that price, www.valueelectronics.com ask for Rob and he'll get you right, he also carries other brands so ask him whats in stock. He's a big sponsor on the AVS site and is a good guy. I've bought from him on several occassions. Good luck.

Have you looked at the Denon 1909? Crazy set up but nice features for the money.

Also, I have heard the Onkyo 706 tends to run on the hot side..

All of the Onk's do, but it's just their nature. It's nothing to worry about as long as you have adequate ventillation.

The Onk gets my vote...but I own one, so I'm biased.;)

Onk 806 has better amps than the 706. You might look for a new open-box 805 on eBay.
