Old Receiver: TS or RMs?
Circuit City is going out of business, so, for the first tme in my life, I'm actually considering buying Polk speakers.
Current prices:
tsi100: $140/pr
tsi300: $140/ea
rm6750: $280/pkg
rm705: $350/pkg
Now, I'm running an ancient receiver, a Pioneer VSX-401: 100w per channel, but I don't think the 5.1 is an option for me.
I'm not ready to buy a new receiver this year, since I've never had a problem with mine in 20 years, and some audiophiles seem to feel the same way:

It's not 5.1, just stereo with surround, so I think I'm limited to the tsi series here, but are they even worth it at the discounted levels? It seems the lsi series or (even more so) the rt series blows the tsi series out of the water.
Basically, I wouldn't normally be a Polk user, because I don't spend money on "consumer" stuff. But I'm thinking of these because of the CC bankruptcy.
Originally, I thought if I can get a pair of tsi300s and back them up with a pair of tsi 100s as surround speakers, that would be the best setup.
But, if the rm6750 or even the rm705s would sound better than a pair of tsis in front and back, I could upgrade my receiver to a 5.1 for about the same cost.
So: keep same receiver, buy tsi300 front channel, buy tsi100 surround
OR:
Buy new receiver with 5.1 capability; buy rm6750 or rm 705.
OR:
Buy neither because CC has only crap in stock. hold out for the lsi or rt.
The room is 12X28 with pretty typical furniture lining the long ends.
What would you do?
Thanks!
EDIT:
What's the difference between the tsi300 and the tsi100 speakers? It seems that the speaker setup is the same, but the 300s have a three foot base attached. As I understand acoustics, that three foot base on the 300s is not going to do anything but wipe out the extra bass that the 100s have if they are both placed on the floor. If the 100s are on a stand that brings them up to the 300 height, will they sound the same from 10 feet away?

Yeah, get the Tsi's. They actually surprised me by how good they sound."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
