I've decided after switching from CSi5 to the A4 due to space restrictions, that I really miss my 5. Since the 5 can't be used, I'm going to do a cap mod. I'm limited to time since my new job which is fine because it only has 3:

.47uF
10uF
27uF

Just picked up some AQ 14awg for the runs inside.

FYI - Any of you in the Milwaukee area might want to visit Flanner's. They have some Type8 20ft run for $100. Also have Type4 20 ft run for $40. I almost pulled the trigger on some type8's

I'll be interested to see how it works out for you. To my knowledge, the only modern Polks that are being modded are the LSis, so I'm excited to here your review. You could be opening up a whole can of worms... :D

OMG!! That's all I can say. Outstanding value mod here.

    First 5 minutes of listening:
Much much bigger sound!! Voices seem to be much clearer. The other thing I noticed was the center gain was a bit too much - had to back off on it a little. Much better match for the RTi8's. Before it seemed way too thin compared to the CSi5.

I'll give you all more feedback when they burn in a bit.

I'll be ordering them when I mod my 8's since they are CHEAP!! I also might replace that dayton .47 with something higher quality - Sonic Cap, Aeon, etc.

I may sound stupid:o When you say you mod the caps do you replace them exactly with the same values of capacitance and voltage or do you consider any other calculations please clarify.

Same capacitance. Voltage will be higher with aftermarket but don't worry about that.

I can't find a schematic, but the .47uf cap may not be needed at all. A value that small is generally used for a bypass cap. If you have the time and energy, you should try it with and without the .47uf in place. And while you're in there, I would also recommend replacing the resistors with Mills.

Zingo also suggested that so I think I'll swap those out soon....especially since they're so cheap.

The ones they had there were used. They had both the type 4 and type 8 in twenty feet. I thought they were going to be new for that price on sale. If you want me to get you the used/demo pair let me know.

Yes, it's been two years... how is your CSIA4 doing? :)

i'm looking to get that speaker and mod it

or should i just go ahead with CSIA6? since the mod cost of materials are probably going to be pricey?
