Thoughts on psw 125 subs

I am currently putting together a new HT system. I have so far purchased a reciever (Yamaha RX-V861), my fronts ( RTIA5's) and am looking to add a sub. An audio store close to me has a PSW 125 sub on sale for $299.99 CND. Now I know that most people in the polk forums are more fond of SVS, ED, and Outlaw etc... But no stores near me has these brands to listen too. I will go and listen to this sub and decide, so I guess I am wonderring whether any of you guys out there has one or has herd one before, and your opinions as to the overall performance for HT and 2 channel listening.. The room is 12x13 with 10 foot ceilings.

I've heard that sub and it's not bad, it just won't give you much below 35hz or so. I had it's predecessor the PSW12 which could actually play quite LOUD in a mid-size room and was good to 33hz +/-3db. The only problem with that was port noise and it was very picky with placement--once I got placement and volume tweaked....and it took a couple of months as I remember--I was out of phase for that time as well, it was OK.
I currently run a Boston Acoustics which is a bit better and plays lower. But the PSW125since it is bottom ported and a bit heavier than the PSW12 is probably easier to place and doesn't chuff and puff as much.
That's a decent price. If it were me I'd step up to the PSW505 which is definitely the best of the past PSW12"-ers. You can get them for less than 300 American online and they have twice the wattage of the PSW125 and a BASH amp with a slot bass port that greatly reduces turbulence at higher volumes. That sub will also take you down to 28hz which is a good place to be for movies.

It may have been my first choice some time ago, but not any more...

Well to follow up I bought the PSW 125 today. I brought it home, set it up and can say that I'm very pleased. I played David Gilmour Live at Royal Albert Hall and found the sub to be musical and a great compliment to my RTIA5's. I did have concerns about its lower range of 35db but it seemed to have plenty of lows without sounding boomy. It kept up well with the percussion very well. Later I watched the fist Jurrasic park. The scene where the t-rex first broke out of its pen and was at the car with the kids was intense to say the least. I still have to tweak it a bit but so far I'm very pleased."They're always talking about my drinking, but never mention my thirst" Oscar Wilde

I just watched the first JP the other night actually. That's an excellent movie for testing surround/subs IMO.
Good to hear you're happy with your purchase.:) I've heard the PSW125 a couple times...but that was in a demo at a local A/V store, in a dedicated demo room they have there. I didn't get a lot of listening time in on it, but I was pretty impressed with it.The nirvana inducer-

The psw125 was my first Polk sub. Not the best but it gets the job done.

If your going to pay $300 for the psw125 look at the 505 instead.

He is exactly correct, I got my PSW505 for less than what you wanna pay for the 125 and the 505 is the best sub I've ever owned. -

Here's a link to Amazon. They have the PSW505 for 240 bucks. With shipping it comes to about 285.

I live in Canada,so buying from the USA means I pay exchange, duty etc.... So it limits my choices"They're always talking about my drinking, but never mention my thirst" Oscar Wilde

Check Futureshop. I'm not sure if they have any of them, but plenty of people on here seem to be quite happy with their customer service and whatnot.
edit-nevermind, I just checked, and they don't have any of them. The nirvana inducer-

I am happy so far with this sub. I am going to purchase my rears and center before I consider any changes. I think when that is done, I may look at a pioneer elite series A/V reciever perhaps an SC-05 or SC-07, but that will be down the road."They're always talking about my drinking, but never mention my thirst" Oscar Wilde

I've been very pleased with my 125. Matched with the RTi A7's and CSi A4, it does all that I want. Its not boomy and it's forgiving in its placement. I'm running a pioneer vsx-1019ah-k
