one question I have is can they have the same engine(which they probably will have) as COD4 but improve the graphics?

I just rented the PS3 version of COD and I saw COD Modern Warfare on the shelf.

Here's a really stupid question! COD is set during the Second WW, what scenarios--'modern' do COD-MW and COD-MW2 add? Just displaying my gaming ignorance here.

    Thanks for the info.

I don't really have a TON of experience with Call of Duty so I won't go very far back in time.

COD 4: modern warfare is just that: modern. COD4 puts you in the middle of a fictional war using modern weaponry. The maps (levels) are designed to put you in a modern setting and give a fairly here-and-now feel.

COD5 World At War: Takes place (as did COD3 I believe) during WWII. It uses weapons and Countries/Allegiances that played a part in WWII. The maps (levels) present architecture common of the location and era you are battling in.

Cod6 (or Modern Warfare II) will be just that, a 'sequel' to COD4. MW and MWII have nothing to do with WWII because they take place in modern times. :)

Infinity Ward and Treyach are staggering their COD's (IW takes the even numbers and Treyarch takes the odd). This is why we are seeing a new COD released every year. Each studio has 2 years to design their next version (COD6 was in development LONG before COD5 was released). It is kind of neat that 2 different studios are designing games in the same series. It gives two different gameplay experiences with a common theme.

    As far as the engine:
Infinity Ward is the studio that made Call of Duty 4, and has been working on Call Of Duty 6 for quite a number of months now. Since they developed the engine (as far as I know) they would be able to easily tweak it, using the same basic 'guts' for COD6. It is possible and probable for them to do this as making a new engine, or buying one and learning a completely new system, can take a lot of time. COD4 was so successful because of the great gameplay. I don't see why they would fix what's NOT broken.

    BeRad,

I am calling you out on this. You can find a "Ray" gun in the second or third level of COD5. Like the one you use in **** Zombies if anyone has ever seen that. My kids showed me how to find it.

    Just saying.......;)

Yes yes, that is true. There is both zombie mode, as well as a ray gun (which could be considered an easter egg). However, I did not state that EVERY aspect of the game true to the times of WWII. :) So my earlier post remains completely valid. :D

Ya know, I still haven't even bothered with the single player mode.

We need to have a COD4 night real soon. Sherard, Grimmie, BeRad, me, chevy, metal, wingnuts, and demi...it would be fun.

I'm not sure if there is a release date yet, but my guess is sometime towards the end of the year.
