On Craigslist Personals, it appears the ladies only take roses, so the extra $8
a week isn't going to help.

    $8 bucks a week...hmmm...let me think.

I could fill up the tank in my car happily knowingly that I will not be starving once in every week and funds the oil money to the middle east terrorists who are nearly losing their minds on a barrel of oil dropping to the low 30s.

It's actually LESS than $416- it's $400 per person OR $800 per household. Which, when you break it down by 2000 hours per year, is <.25c per hour.

The funny thing is how brainwashed we've all become to think we're somehow getting extra money. No, the fact is the government is getting less of your money!

Quite the SPIN job, isn't it!;) Just like the World Poker Tour, where they say player X won a pot of $1.1M, when he just went ALL-IN for $900K:eek:

If I had a magic wand Id eliminate payroll withholdings. You would have to sit down and right a check out to the government for your taxes every month just like you do every other bill. If you had to do that, and see all the money that is actually being taken away from you by force, youd have a whole new appreciation for the tax burden and it would be a WHOLE lot less because any politician even hinting about raising taxes would be ran out of DC.

Just look at anytime your local city council tries to raise property taxes by .01%. If your town is like mine, all hell breaks loose! Or how about when the banks went up on ATM fees by $1. Again, all hell breaks loose. BUT 50% of the money you earn is taken up in taxes and we dont so much as whimper. Interesting.

Eight a week should be enough to cover the increased Fed cigarette tax to pay for the children's heath care. Light em up......you're smoking for the children.

    I approve this post.

Just think of it this way : for the majority of workers, every paycheck goes directly to the government from the start of the year until sometime in late April. You can keep the rest. Almost five months out of the year you're just working for the man. Awesome system.

I don't get how this would be a spin job.
Player X has no money in the pot and it is at 200k. He pushes all in for his remaining 900k and everyone folds: giving him the pot worth 1.1M.

    Where is the deception?

Edit: That situation shows a gain. A 900k investment yields a 200k gain. You now have 1.1m to invest in future pots! :)

How is it different than winning a golf tournament you had to pay to enter? You are winning your money, plus some. Only diff is that a poker pot isn't money, it's chips.

    "Enjoy every sandwich" :)

My wife (private sector manufacturing) just told me about a 10% pay cut for all who've not been layed off so far. Kalifornia has just about dialed in on a budget.
Annual car tax up from .65% to 1.15%
12-cent per gallon tax hike on gasoline
    1% sales tax hike
one-time, 5 percent surcharge on people who owe personal income tax in 2009.

Nearest I can figure is this will put us down about $125 a week.

Make mine a wish sandwich :(

I think people tend to forget the hundreds of other incentives and program associated with this package. There are so many things wrapped up in it that will help the economy but all we hear about is the "juicy" bits that can be spun for better ratings on our 24 news outlets.

One example is for renewable energy. The first package allowed geothermal heating and cooling units (geoexchange - not hot rocks and geysers) to receive a 30% tax credit for installation costs. Unfortunately that was capped at $2000. This second package removes that cap entirely. This will save homeowners THOUSANDS more, and when combined with state and local incentives, really makes switching to geothermal attractive. The EPA and DOE has called geothermal "the most energy efficient, cost effective and environmentally friendly way to condition our homes and businesses." It reduces our dependence on fossil fuels, lowers utility bills by up to 70%, and happens to be good for the environment as well.

This is just an example and there many others like it.

I just want hope and change...

I heard it was $13 a week until the end of 2009 and then went down to $8.

This may be off topic but a few days ago I saw the national debt was a little over 10 trillion and the population was 330 something billion. Do you realize if everyone paid their part of the debt it would be about $35K per household. Adding the two trillion would raise that to $42K. Of course that doesn't include interest and I assumed there were 2 or 3 people in each house.
