I believe the SL2000 is/was stock on the SDA2's but since there seem to be so many versions it hard to say for sure. If you can post a picture or two it will help id your exact speakers. Or you can describe them by the number tweeters. EVERYONE here suggests replacing them with the newer RDO tweeters from Polk. They are in the area of $50.00 each which is a bargain. Hope this helps, I am far from an expert but maybe others will chime in.

When you replace them,, remember to save the gaskets because you'll need to use them with the new replacements. You can thank me later.:)

I changed mine on my SDA 2B's. The 194's seem to handle high notes a bit clearer. Mine are not even broken in yet. It is a good and easy upgrade.
Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,
Yamaha RX-V2500 System, Carver A753 3 channel amp.

Polk HT system 2: , SRT system with f/x 1,000's rear speakers on 7.1 system currently using Onkyo TX-RZ820 receiver, powered by Sunfire Grand Theater amp

    Polk Speaker collection: SDA SRS 1.2tl x 2, SRT system, SDA SRS 2 P/B, SDA 2A, SDA 1C Studio, SDA CRS+, Monitor 7B & 4, SRS 3.1tl, RTA 15tl, LS90, LSI 9

I have the sda 2A's which the original owner added sl 2500 tweeters to for some reason. would it make sense to upgrade to the Rdo 194 even though the sl 2500's are just fine?
Is that even possible for this model speaker?

The SL2500's are the wrong tweeter for that model. You would be much better off replacing them with the RD0194-1's.

So I have a choice between the RD0194 and the SL2000 and the popular choice is the RD0194 for the SDA2?

    Is that the consensus?

I hadn't considered the possibility of making a comparison.
How would you recommend I go about that?
    Buy two of each?
Will Polk accept a return if they were installed even briefly?

If you want to try the original tweeter,, post a WTB in the WTB section of the FM,,then you could always flip them and get the RDO's/and or if you did not like them,,sell them here in the FM,,OR,, take the advice of the more learned' and just go with the RDO,, and flip the 2000's,,that was simple,,eh? ;):)

You can't buy the SL2000's any longer unless you buy used as suggested by George. Mention you are a Club Polk member and you'll get a discount on the new RD0194-1 tweeters with free 2nd day shipping. Easy choice, IMO.

Thats up to you,,but if you do,,,,,do the tweeters first and/or the crossovers next,, I just did my 1C's,, sonicaps and mills all the way around,,in a couple of weeks,I'll replace the tweeters. YMMV. Good luck.

The RDO194-1's seem to be much smoother and less "fatiguing" to me. Over an hour with the SL2000's used to get on my nerves. That doesn't happen with my 194's.

Also, I've noticed many of the domes on older, used SL2000's in the forums or on eBay seem to have flat spots (physical dents) in the curvature of the dome that can cause sound dispersion problems.
