Pimped out 7B's

(Sorry for the verbage. I'm not a victim of pop culture. I just spend too much time around adolescents.)

After a couple years of talking shite, I finally went and recapped my 7B's. While I was tearing things up, since I recently discovered the magic of rope caulk on some other speakers I've been messing with, I figured I'd give 'em the full treatment. This includes the foam tape application I read about here. After a full day of work (I'm neither talented nor efficient) I have to say that I'm glad I did it. A few observations jumped out at me right away.

1. Bass extension seems a bit deeper, and tighter.
2. Mids are clearer. I noticed the pick on acoustic guitar strings particularly. I can hear the strike clearly.
3. Cymbals are distinct and decay much nicer.

Now these are not smack-you-in-the-face differences. I did some right and left balance swings with one completed speaker and one original to highlight the effect of the upgrades. But now that they are both done the effect is fantacstic. I think the combination of sealing the cabinet, eliminating the ring of the baskets and the new caps takes these to the next level.

Many have contributed to the knowledge base here but I'd like to thank DarqueKnight, heiney9, jakelm and ben62670 for specific information that helped me along. Absolutely invaluable.

Good to hear that you're happy with your results.

What caps did you use? I have a pair of 7A's that I've been thinking about doing some XO mods to. I'm not looking to real soon...but eventually.

While I was originally trying to hold out for some combination of parts that worked from Madisound, as they're local, they just didn't have the right values. I went with the parts list often quoted here with the Dayton caps and Mills resistors. I should've caved earlier.
