HT AVR for B.I.L.

Ok,

Got one guy taken care of, and the other about half taken care of. The Brother In Law needs a AVR for his first HT ever. I got him a full set of LS speakers last month, now he needs something to drive them.

He wants to spend between 300-400 on the AVR, so obviously nothing too fancy. Looking for a good name though, maybe Denon/HK or comparable.

Anybody have anything laying around that they would be willing to let go of in that price range?

    If he is willing to go the refurb route, take a look at the HK direct store on eBay (no affil):

    That's where I picked up my AVR, and was very happy with it.

    cool. I haven't gotten him anything yet. I was kinda hoping someone would have something on here they wanted to move, ya know with Rebates for taxes hitting soon... upgraditis has gotta be setting in with someone right? :)

    For that price range, you could pick up a new Onkyo TX-SR606 on Ebay. Unless he is looking for something with preouts.

    Ya, he wanted something with Preouts for down the road upgrades... And you can get twice the bang for the buck used instead of new as well :)

    You could get a new Yamaha with preout for that price. I'm thinking of going that way but I need to hear it first.

    If the speakers are 8 or 6 ohm, look at Yamaha 663, 6ave.com free shipping $350. Has HD codecs, Pre outs and 2 HDMI ports and 7.1
