If there ain't no tubes then all you got is sand and drool.

So true. Any discussion of ss amp X vs. ss amp Y is like deciding between McDonalds or Burger King -- they're OK, but neither one can make a burger that tastes better than a juicy, top sirloin tube steak.;)

Carry on with your conversation, you ss suckers!!

Neither one of you have heard the Aleph then...........yes it's SS and yes the term "sounds tube-like" is an over used cliche but Nelson picked the best aspects of tubes and best aspects of SS and combined them in an amp that sounds very, very tube-like in many areas. Is it a tube amp? No; but it sounds different that any SS I have heard and much closer to the tube amps I've heard.

As a matter for Dick Olsher (The Toob Man) has this to say: So why is Toob Man reviewing the Aleph 30 - a solid-state design? In a nutshell, it is the most musical solid-state I have yet to audition over the past forty years. It effectively bridges the gap between solid-state and tube sound, blending tube and transistor virtues into a musically satisfying whole.

The rest of the review here, which gives a great history of SS and nice design lesson about how less is more. Aleph 30

My own thread and review to come (for those who give a crap :):p)

So don't whine about toobs :):):p;)

    Mega,

Well, although I am still as good once as I ever was I will admit that in my slightly younger days it was pretty much knuckles, knees and elbows where-as these days its more ballpeen's and 2X4's, however, I have found the net effect to be quite similiar.

    See you at Polkfest.

    H9,

slight correction, I dine and wine with tubes, whilst thee is losing traction slipping in the sand. Honestly now, do you really (reeely) want to war with words??? Think about it....

I have though recently heard rumour that the Emo is in fact an illegitimate **** child born from a chance meeting between an Adcom and Carver during Mardi-Gra.

This thread has gone way too off topic.

To the OP, sorry if I ruin your desire to get EMO or Adcom. There was a sale on EMO for XPA-3 recently ended but if you call them, I think you can probably talk to them to get it at the sales price. Good Luck! :)

Ah such is the life of the Polk Forum. I am excited about my new purchase and have taken this off track too by sheer enthusiasm. Didn't intend too.

IMHO, changing the Adcom for the EMO is a side ways move and if it were me (as I have now done) I'd raise the bar higher if you are unhappy with the Adcom's or just want to move on up.

The absolute best solution to your question is borrow or buy an EMO and run with it yourself in your system.

To Ted, no war with words..........I would loose ;):). I just have such enthusiasm for my new purchase and I have jumped to a whole new level of listening enjoyment. I could never go back to complicated push/pull class A/B or switching class D amps. It's like a great bottle of wine...........once you get a taste of finer things there is no going back. But you already know this :)

    To the OP, good luck.

That's the little tart I want to replace My GFA 5500 handling top end duty with when the stars align (me with extra scratch and a pristine one up for sale) and I could still fix breakfast in the listening room :D

'Until that day' the 5500 is a fair piece of that sonic cloth in a bit darker shade.

That Pass is Aces, enjoy Brock.

Nothing wrong with alot of humor mixed in with an occasional audio gem, its how we roll.

Sorry Mega, but the tag stays, you are crowned Mega, whether its Mophead Mega or Magnum Mega just depends. We already got a bunch of damm James', hell, one JDHiggs is enough, which reminds me, where has his sorry butt been???

Wonder if the little James popped out or if its a Jamie???

The picture shows the inners of the Adcom GFA-7807 amp ... I don't use it anymore but it's 300WPC x 7 @ 8 ohms and can drive most speaker load for HT use. It weights 140LBs alone. :D

fine, then if we are raising the bar a bit just get 5 or 7 Levinson 436's chassied for HT and call it all good, That ought to hold you a bit, it's HT afterall.

RT1, you still here? I am awaiting for you in the new thread. LOL Come on out there, u tube sucker! :D

    Seriously, 7 x MC2KW would do for a good HT. :p

OP, I have a complete set of GFA-7807 and Adcom Pre GTP-880 to be parted soon. I don't use 7807 for quite some time now but still occasionally using GTP-880 pre. I am getting a new pre and both might be put up for sale. I dont' know yet but I don't want you to side track from your EMO fantasy. :D
