That seems like a good price for the towers, but I've always been leery about buying used speakers.

Damn, and I was thinking of going the same way, looking at used for speakers of CL. I thought perhaps speakers would OK to buy used. If they are not damaged and sound good, how can they be not OK to buy used? On the other hand, I would think buying used components such as a receiver would be risky because there's a lot more that can go wrong and wear out with components. But speakers? If they work, they work, no?

There are plenty of people around here that almost exclusively buy used equipment. 9 times out of 10 you're gonna end up with something that's still in good shape. You've just gotta be careful, and make sure you pay attention to descriptions and pictures and all that.

The reason I never buy used speakers is because you never know what people have done to them. They can advertise them as being in great condition online but I can advertise myself as Chuck Norris online too. They could have used them as a coffee table or could have played them at top tower and max wattage every day. OR they could have used them responsibly and played them the way the should be played. I, Chuck Norris say....it's your call.

After the first used item I bought, I never bought another new speaker. I got Lsi7's for $325, SDA2Bs for $50, Musical Fidelity A3.2 for $800 (retail was $1800) and so on, blah blah.

Why buy something new when someone else is willing to take such a big hit on it? Those speakers were probably around $800 new.

I had Rti70's which was speaker that replaced the towers and they kicked ****. It was a great starter HT and I wish I hadn't sold it!

Someone who is looking to start a HT should definitely jump on these. You could easily find a matching center for probably around $150, pick up a $500 receiver and have a bad **** HT for a little over $1000 with plenty of room to upgrade when you want to.

    SDA2B's for 50 bucks!? Now that's a damn good deal...nice score.

I'd agree though...someone could build a badass HT setup with these. All you need is a center, receiver and a sub(which you could hold off on for a while) and you'd be in business. Someone should jump on these. Excellent price on them.

+10 on buying used. Everything in my rig is used except for my phono cartridge (I don't recommend buying used cartridges) and CD player, which I would have got used if I was more familiar with the used market when I got it. As long as you are careful and make sure you buy from sellers with feedback from other users, you should be fine, and you will save tons of cash.
